Read what parents are saying about Scotchtown Hills Elementary SchoolAbsolutely impressed with the dedication from teachers and leadership through out the Covid 19 pandemic. My daughter attended virtual kindergarten which was incredibly challenging to manage. Her teacher taught the entire class computer skills, mouse skills, how to navigate a browser. In addition to teaching kindergarten subjects we also received computer literacy skills. My daughter attended school in person for the 1st grade and also received a phenomenal education. The entire class was a bit behind naturally from the challenges of virtual kindergarten the year before. At the start of the year my daughter was struggling with sight words. At the end of the first grade my daughter knows her sight words and is reading books to me. Her teacher went above and beyond to provide daily homework and to communicate with parents homework expectations. My only issue has been the bus. Sometimes my daughter misses the bus due to communication breakdown. Luckily I live nearby and can just pop over. When this happens I do get a mini heart attack, but I call the school and they confirm what caused her to miss the bus. This has happened at least 3x this year. Other than the issue listed above, absolutely love Scotchtown! I encourage prospective parents to engage with your student's teacher and to use classroom dojo app. We have had an absolutely positive experience so far.
Posted by a parent on 6/28/2022My children went to this school for 1 year (3rd grade). The school is clean and the staff and teachers are friendly. My only concern is I don't feel my children learned very much. The year started off good with homework and communication with the teacher but after spring break everything just went down hill. They stopped giving much homework or if there was homework it was basic and easy. I would ask my children what they learned in school and they would always say nothing or how they watched movies or listened to music in class. I would not recommend this school if you want your child to excel academically. Before and After care program is awesome though!
Posted by a parent on 6/28/2018Pretty bad. I am not impressed. I feel very uneasy leaving my preschooler there. The teacher did NOT have any organization or patience with the kiddos nor parents. It was sad to see. The teacher was slightly arrogant. Did not take the time to explain anything nicely. She wasn't patient with the children- even on the first day. The organization of getting the preschoolers out of the bus and into the cafeteria was chaotic. I felt like if the parents were not there, some of the kids would have been lost. Regardless of whether your child eats breakfast there or not, they have to sit there in the cafeteria until they go to their classes. It would be nice to know that everyone will get their breakfast without feeling like they are ignored. Some organization is needed for this. If anyone from the school reads this, please work on organization and kindness. Thank you!!
Posted by a parent on 9/6/2017I am really impressed with this school. I like the way that the kids are challenged. My grandson attends and I feel like they are teaching him that the sky is the limit. The teachers give me guidance for working at home and I am truly happy with what he is accomplishing. I am a retired teacher and am amazed at his conversational level and thought process.
Posted by a parent on 3/7/2017This school is the most horrible school my son has attended!! Teachers are horrible, they don't take their time to explain anything in school, everyday my son comes home it's a problem because they don't explain his homework to him.. My son has never had problems like this at any of his schools!

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principal who's name is Jewel Preston lost her mind talking to me like I'm a kid and I'm older than her. I came to get my kid at 1:30 which is 15 minutes before they get out and she had the nerve to tell me I can't get him until school is over. In the past I picked him up 3 times at that same time. I was talking to another staff member about am I able to get my son if it's an emergency by then it was only 2 minutes of school left then Preston the principal jumped in my conversation and raised her voice telling me I don't have any emergency and she's right I because I never said I did I was just asking a question. She started raising her voice and being rude when I kindly told her I was not talking to her. She told me to get my son when school is out and slammed the front door in my face. Now if she talks to a parent like that, imagine how she treats the kids. You can't let stuff like that go which I'm not. Don't even bother talking to the superintendent because most likely they're buddies. You have to go over him or her to get results.;3Parent Review1y ago - First Baptist School Of Laurel

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has been in this school for two years. We have had excellent communication with the teachers, we have been able to set up conferences with our child's teacher, we have been able to recieve updates on her progress in the class and the progress of the class in general. So far each year the teachers have been great at communicating and answering questions via phone call, in person, email, or throuh the ClassDojo app. The homework and classwork she has brought home has always come back with feedback from the teacher. Also the results we received in the mail from the standardized test that were taken make me confident in the education she has received. On top of that I really appreciate the level of Christian education incorporated in the classes as well. The student teacher ratio is perfect for the students to get the support they need from the teacher. It is quite different than the 1:26 ratio at our local public school. I have seen some poor reviews online and I can't speak on every grade level or every teacher but so far we have loved our Christian Academy experience. From Academics, Extracurricular Activities, and Christian education it has been a great experience so far.Parent Review7mo ago - Julia Brown Schools

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageJulia Brown School in Laurel is an institution that deserves nothing but praise. The staff is exceptional from top to bottom, beginning with the Director, Ms. Moller. The school is exceptionally clean, respectful, and has a wonderful family-like atmosphere. Ms. Moller is extremely welcoming and knows each student by name. Her staff is extremely invested in the education of each and every student. They support and steer the kids in the right direction while allowing and encouraging self-growth so they can discover and understand who they are. They also do a fantastic job of being inclusive, giving every child a voice, teaching them to be respectful, and preparing them to make responsible decisions throughout the day. Thanks to a rigorous curriculum that they follow every day, your child will be ahead of the curve in most academic areas. For instance, my daughter teaches me new words every day and is always eager to tell me about her Latin language studies when she gets home. Overall, the price is worth the admission. If you want your child to excel and thrive independently without having to worry about being lost in a large school system, Julia Brown is the school for you.Parent Review1mo ago
