Read what parents are saying about Gov. Thomas Johnson High SchoolThe food is bad, I would get threatened by classmates often, people bring knifes and weapons to school. The teachers don't help much with these problems, lots of bullying and harassment. One time someone brought a knife to a lunch room and tried to stab a classmate, lots of physical violence and fights, as well as threats between people and other things. Not only that but their milk tends to be curtoled and taste horrible, so be careful of the milk. Their pizza tastes like cardboard, and their food just doesn't taste or look the best in general.
Posted by a student on 3/5/2024I have three children, one is graduating from TJ this month, another next year, and my youngest will be a freshman next year. I can’t say enough good things about our experience with TJ. I was very nervous given some of the low ratings but I have been so impressed by the staff and administration. I have one child who requires more academic rigor and another who needs additional support services (IEP) and both have had their academic needs met and then some.
Posted by a parent on 5/2/2023This school is amazing. The staff really care about the students success. I went on to get a PhD in aerospace engineering and within my peer group we had numerous JD’s, PhD’s and MD. This school set students up for success.
Posted by a community member on 10/4/2021Our family is beyond pleased with GTJHS. Coming from another school in the district that does not celebrate diversity and does not recognize students as maturing young adults, this school is like a breath of fresh air! I'm dismayed to see that it has a relatively low rating on Great Schools. I don't feel like this school gets enough credit for all of the exceptional teachers and administrators who make it a place to learn and thrive. Look past the aging school facility to see the real magic happening here.
Posted by a parent on 2/28/2020My son graduated from Thomas Johnson HS and did very well. The teachers at this high school are wonderful and the coursework is rigorous. He has received the highest scholarship available to incoming freshmen because his grades were top notch! He had both honors and AP courses at TJHS. Our graduating class of 2016 received $4 million in scholarships! I have two more children coming through the high school and we're proud parents of our school.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child has been here for 5 years and we love this school. The Montessori method of teaching has been a blessing for our child and most of the staff are clearly passionate about their students and seeing them succeed. While there have been some bumps in the road (as all schools have) a new principal has come in this year and she is FANTASTIC. There is a fresh feel to this school that just celebrated 13 years of service to Frederick County students. I love that it is a small school of only 300 students and goes all the way thru 8th grade so that my child will not have to endure the hard transition middle school often brings. I look forward to 4 more years working with the parents and teachers to maintain this excellent learning program.Parent Review8y ago - Monocacy Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter spent her middle school years at Vis. She is excelling in public high school, is in the magnet program, and is taking an AP class her freshman year. She received straight A's on her report card throughout her freshman year. I feel is was the small class sizes and same teachers (for the most part) that gave her the confidence to succeed in high school. I am happy with my decision to send her there and have other daughters at the school.Other Review7y ago - The Banner School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWith the recent move to a new location, I've only seen positive changes for this school as a whole. My daughter (age 5) loves learning, has made friends easily and gets involved with afterschool clubs and activities. The school has confident and knowledgeable teachers, administrators who are dedicated to the mission of educating each student, and the classrooms are spacious and built for 21st century learning. I am so excited for my daughter to continue her journey all the way through 8th grade and be more than prepared for high school and beyond.Parent Review2mo ago - Maranatha Christian Academy
