Read what parents are saying about J.R. Lowell Elementary SchoolThere is nothing special about this school or its approach to learning. It is a very diverse school in terms of student diversity, economics, family values. Some parents seem very engaged while some have no involvement at all. The PTO at this school badly needs new faces and friendly faces too. Some on the PTO are not at all parent friendly. There are some behavior issues with students and that makes classroom learning difficult. I am a mom to 3 children and could never recommend Watertown Public Schools to anyone.
Posted by a parent on 7/3/2018Update 2016: Principle is still great and the school is really becoming even more of a community. Thankful to have some very excellent teachers too. My later years at Lowell were great too(great teachers). Hope that they keep Math League for both 4th and 5th grades along with add more project base STEAM. Thank goodness for parents/Watertown Strong Schools for advocating for more money and resources to help better our Elementary/Middle/High schools. We are getting better but still have a good way to go. Overall district Administration is not communicative and needs to be more on top of situations before they are in crisis mode. I'm rating this school though, but if I were to rate the Administration I would give them 2 stars...the principle/teachers and all at Lowell are excellent!2012:Lowell school is a good school with a new interm princple this year. SHe is doing a GREAT job transitioning and responding to parents. The kids already love her and she is night and day better than the previous unresponsive prinicple(mentioned in the previous posts). The lower grade teachers so far have been great. I'm not hearing as great a praise for the upper grades but we shall see!
Posted by a parent on 5/22/2016I love Lowell School! My daugther needed special education and they are awsome!! Unfortunately we had to leave the school because we moved to another state. We miss Lowell school so much!!
Posted by a parent on 5/1/2015From what we have read and experienced the Lowell School is about average nationally. I sincerely hope this can improve by the time our daughter is old enough to attend.
Posted by a parent on 4/28/2014Our school is wonderful. The teachers and principal all care about the children. My son has learned so much while being there, not just academically but about community. We are all in this world together and we need to help build each other up. Thank you to all the teachers who work hard in the trenches everyday.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have thoroughly enjoyed our time at Wellington (elementary and prek program). As a military family, we move frequently and it will be tough to top our educational experience here. The teachers are dedicated to helping our children develop into life long learners. We appreciate the structure and organization they bring to the classroom, and we also like the different approaches they use in teaching with whole and small group instruction. I cannot say enough good things about our teacher and educational experience at Wellington.Parent Review5y ago - Hosmer Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has been going to this school since Kindergarten, and I have noticed that this school has not one black staff member, which is bothersome. My daughter is in 5th grade now and has voiced that she no longer wants to go to school because one of the teachers in her class has been targeting her. Being rude and nasty to my daughter! I have asked two other students which are my daughters friends have they witnessed the teacher targeting my daughter, in which they both confirmed. I don’t believe black children at this school are equally educated as the white children, nor do black children have the proper resources. I have also reached out to the superintendent via email and phone call, and never received a follow up email nor call back in regards to my concerns! I am looking into relocating my daughter.Parent Review1y ago - Belmont Day School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to BDS a few years back, and I must say that the school was one of the best they could offer. I came from an all-boys school before, and I came to BDS around the pandemic. Belmont Day hosted great athletics programs for me (like Cross Country or Basketball), and their teachings also made more sense than when I was at my all-boys school previously. The teachers are supportive, and the school doesn't seem disconnected. I met so many kids there from various backgrounds and developed relationships with many of them over time. One thing I didn't love (although I don't believe they do this anymore as much) was that they were really on the LGBT and diversity spectrum. I have no problems with that stuff, but I felt they did go somewhat overboard sometimes. I still keep in touch with many kids there, and I'm 100% glad that I decided to transfer from my previous school (although I wish I had done it earlier). All around, the school is excellent, and if anyone is looking to give their child an excellent education and also to develop their social life, I would say this is the place to send your kid.Other Review3mo ago - P'tits Bouts
