Read what parents are saying about Amanda Arnold Elementary SchoolMy entire experience has been wonderful. I am going to miss this school. My son has been going since kindergarten.
Posted by a parent on 10/11/2018We are a military family and have lived all over the United States. Amanda Arnold was average in comparison with the schools our children have attended. The PTO is amazing and there are some amazing teachers at this school. I would have liked to have seen more technology and a more active administration.
Posted by a parent on 8/20/2013I bought a very expensive house specifically to live in the Amanda Arnold school district. I was told that it was the best school in Manhattan and that the education was top notch. This is not correct. The school eliminated any secondary language teaching because the math scores were so low. My third graders teacher does not email nor communicate any of the issues she is having and the school does not send home notes when my child misbehaves. My other child was part of a gifted school but was not "good enough" for the Kansas system until they recognized that the majority of what they were teaching for the entire year was review from our previous school district. Overall there are some great teachers in this school but I am grossly diasppointed in the performance of others and do not feel that tenure should allow someone who obviously doesn't have passion for teaching to remain on staff. This school system seems to be very behind other school systems and while parents claim A.Arnold is the best, after doing some digging I found that it is ranked in the bottom third of the state. I am heartbroken by the effects of this school on one of my children in particular, can't wait to move.
Posted by a parent on 12/15/2012We have been at Amanda Arnold for 4 years now. My daughter started kindergarten here. We LOVE this school. The teachers are wonderful and the staff is amazing. We are military and Amanda Arnold is very supportive of military families. They have a wonderful military group program which has helped my daughter through several deployments. Every parent is encouraged to join the PTO and all new ideas are welcomed. They have great advanced programs and also great programs for children who are struggling academically. Amanda Arnold have good leadership and a principal who is available anytime and is always willing to work with any situation. My daughter is very sad that we have to leave this school and so am I. It will be hard to find a school comparable to Amanda Arnold.
Posted by a parent on 4/19/2012We've been at Amanda Arnold for 3 years now and love it here. My son loves to go to school. Not much bullying and great teachers. PTO and parental involvement is amazing at this school. They work great with average and above average kids. They also have a great military kids lunch group and the counselor offers individual support when requested. This school has been a very positive experience for this military family.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur experience with Lee for the multiple years we were varied from year to year. There are some excellent teachers there and there are some horrible teachers there. We got our taste of both. One teacher seemed more focused on medicating our child than teaching our child and also favored one parent over the other - that was the horrible one. Other teachers were excellent and focused on encouraging our child and propelling our child to excel. As far as the staff goes - it is hit and miss. Some are fantastic and some leave you wondering how they managed to be qualified for their job. If you are a blended family, I would avoid this school at all costs. They are not prepared or equipped to provide a non-biased interest for your kids. We experienced staff members telling us they were "on our side" and staff members making it clear they were not. I suppose if you do not have any drama with any exes this school would be an okay school. My take from it is that they don't quite have their stuff together to handle any dynamic other than your ideal American family.Parent Review8y ago - Marlatt Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has a very active PTO that always strives to get families connected at school. Funds raised at events go directly back to school events and items. Staff are personable and make a great team. Lots of large windows and vaulted ceilings in all the classrooms make the rooms seem more open and bright. Recently updated playground equipment. My daughter went to this school from Kinder thru 6th grade (before they moved 6th grade to the middle schools) and loved it. Easy to walk or bike to school.Parent Review8mo ago - Theo Roosevelt Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageKids went through Bergman. The former principal (until 2019) was fantastic. Her skills, personality, and understanding of what young kids need to feel safe and thrive was wonderful, and we loved every day at Bergman. Now we have a new principal (Mr. K@#!) who has taken the heart and joy out of this school and turned it into a "my way or the highway" kind of place. Ugh. And the VP uses a bull horn to shout at kids during their "no talking" lunches, and takes away recess time if the kids fidget. Seriously. The teachers are, overall, very highly skilled and care about the kids. Can't say that about the principal or the VP.....if you are looking to live on the west side, maybe consider Amanda Arnold until the current administrators retire.....Other Review2y ago
