Read what parents are saying about Frank V Bergman Elementary SchoolKids went through Bergman. The former principal (until 2019) was fantastic. Her skills, personality, and understanding of what young kids need to feel safe and thrive was wonderful, and we loved every day at Bergman. Now we have a new principal (Mr. K@#!) who has taken the heart and joy out of this school and turned it into a "my way or the highway" kind of place. Ugh. And the VP uses a bull horn to shout at kids during their "no talking" lunches, and takes away recess time if the kids fidget. Seriously. The teachers are, overall, very highly skilled and care about the kids. Can't say that about the principal or the VP.....if you are looking to live on the west side, maybe consider Amanda Arnold until the current administrators retire.....
Posted by a community member on 2/10/2022I live this school, my kids previously went to another school here in Manhattan that we liked bit when we switched to Bergman I was very impressed. The staff has always been nice and very helpful. They have great programs for any type or level or learning style and they are very caring about each child.
Posted by a community member on 3/4/2016Bergman Elementary helps children learn to walk among a crowd with different socio-economic backgrounds, races, primary language and physical abilities. Principals, Teachers and staff strive to push your child to their very best both educationally and socially through the 5 pillars of character. The before, after and summer program BLAST (Bergman Learning After School Time) is amazing for working parents. Children have a great time and don't even realize that they are learning after school. I can not recommend Bergman high enough to future students.
Posted by a parent on 2/3/2015Yes, I have reviewed before but, I wanted to one more time. The ore I know about Bergman, the more I like! Especially the after school program BLAST ... amazing, affordable, and such a great experience for my daughter.. Each day is a different "theme" one day she'll be involved in something *sciency*, the next, reading, the next day a P.E. type activity, etc. She loves it and has a chance to make even more friends because of the kids being able to mingle more than during the regular school day. Great teachers and assistants at Bergman! I am so happy we were placed here for her 1st grade year!

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur experience with Lee for the multiple years we were varied from year to year. There are some excellent teachers there and there are some horrible teachers there. We got our taste of both. One teacher seemed more focused on medicating our child than teaching our child and also favored one parent over the other - that was the horrible one. Other teachers were excellent and focused on encouraging our child and propelling our child to excel. As far as the staff goes - it is hit and miss. Some are fantastic and some leave you wondering how they managed to be qualified for their job. If you are a blended family, I would avoid this school at all costs. They are not prepared or equipped to provide a non-biased interest for your kids. We experienced staff members telling us they were "on our side" and staff members making it clear they were not. I suppose if you do not have any drama with any exes this school would be an okay school. My take from it is that they don't quite have their stuff together to handle any dynamic other than your ideal American family.Parent Review8y ago - Marlatt Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has a very active PTO that always strives to get families connected at school. Funds raised at events go directly back to school events and items. Staff are personable and make a great team. Lots of large windows and vaulted ceilings in all the classrooms make the rooms seem more open and bright. Recently updated playground equipment. My daughter went to this school from Kinder thru 6th grade (before they moved 6th grade to the middle schools) and loved it. Easy to walk or bike to school.Parent Review8mo ago - Amanda Arnold Elementary School
