Indian Trail Elementary School

Our child is neurodiverse, and we have had nothing but positive experiences from the principal, to the nurse, to all the support staff and teachers. We know our child's education is in good hands at Fairmount!

Families who are still considering this school should think carefully before enrolling. What we witnessed is: if a child does not perfectly fit the school’s expectations, meaningful support can be very limited! Rather than working with families to help a child succeed, we were told our child might be better off attending another school. That is incredibly disappointing from an institution that should be committed to helping every student grow and learn. Schools should support children who need guidance or a different approach—not make families feel like their child doesn’t belong. Overall our experience was deeply frustrating and disheartening.

I can't say enough about my experience with Kingsley. My daughter is thriving, and we are very happy with the teachers and staff. Alos the community around this school is very involved and supportive.

The classrooms are well designed, no corner or square inch is wasted and they encourage creativity and learning, but yet it’s homey and cozy. The teachers are top notch!

Context: I have 3 kids, all of whom currently attend ACS. 2 of the 3 are diagnosed neurodivergent/2E or 3E. I would wholeheartedly recommend ACS to anyone looking for an excellent education for their bright and/or gifted child. The PreK program were some of the happiest years of our family's life - the teachers are warm, welcoming, and provided the depth our kids needed. Lower School gradually introduced some of the most important foundational topics that kids need to learn: community, accountability, critical thinking skills, and more. At ACS, life skills are intentionally woven into academics, and expectations are high - as they should be. Middle School is a bit of a pressure cooker for kids who are easily overwhelmed, but every MS teacher that we've encountered has been more than willing to discuss workarounds, accommodations, extensions, etc. - they are happy to meet our kids where they are, as opposed to where they "should" be. Avery Coonley graduates are known for reaching their high school years with confidence, skills way above average compared to their peers, not to mention persistence, curiosity, and a love of learning.My neurodivergent kids have struggled somewhat to find a groove as we collectively navigate which accommodations the school can (or cannot) provide, etc. After all, no school can be everything to everyone. There is lots of potential/opportunity for improvement and process refinement - that said, it gets better every year and we've found that administrators are welcoming of feedback and ideas. The social workers at ACS are incredible!If you are looking for a space where your child can be surrounded by like-minded peers, and you might benefit from a strong community that supports its own families, ACS is the place for you.
