Posted by a parent on 2/7/2018The teachers are amazing!! Every educator in this school is fantastic and loves the students as they help them grow and achieve year after year. LOVE the dynamic & highly successful style of that 4th grade teacher! Rock that Success!! However, the 3 year 'new' principal is completely out of place at this magnet school for the Arts and Humanities. She has taken the "Art" and "Humanities" out and replaced it with ignorance and out-of-touch ineptitude. This was a bad fit from the beginning and the school would be highly served if a new principal were located who understood the true concept of a Magnet School for the Arts and Humanities. Still, the teacher's are what make this school. They continue to soldier on in spite of the boat anchor of a principal.
Posted by a community member on 5/28/2015My daughters attended this school one in 3rd and 4th grade. In 3rd grade she had Mrs. DuCoeur the best teacher ever! She is so understanding and truly loves the kids helping them to be the best they can be everyday! In 4th grade it was horrible, her teacher threw pencils across the room, books across the room she was constantly yelling at the kids and discipline was extreme, needless to say I removed my daughter. The principal at this school has brought a "new light" and I personally feel a worse one, she is not friendly, unkind and rude. She has removed much of the home feeling from the school. My other daughter had Mrs. Edmonds another absolutely wonderful teacher!!! She was the best and loves each child as her own, her smile is always present and her joy over flows. We loved her!! We love the programs at the school, many extra curricular activities are available!! The parent community is cliquish and hard to become a part of if you don't have the right status or amount of money.
Posted by a parent on 1/31/2015The teachers at Sorensen are dynamic, caring, talented, highly qualified and absolutely top notch!. They make this a 'go to' school! The fact that the previous principal moved on is lamentable as the current replacement is not entirely capable nor compatible with an Arts and Humanities format such as exists in this school. This should be addressed asap. Thankfully, in spite of this obstacle, the teachers themselves have persevered to keep the students in this newly re-modeled school singing, dancing, creating and achieving top scores across the board! Keep up the fantastic work!

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIn regard to the previous complaint about staff not enforcing the "uniform" policy- I'm glad they didn't. This should have never happened in the first place. Borah has a free and reduced rate of 80 percent. This would have been a burden on many families, including ours to have to purchase these uniforms. I appreciate the new principal recognizing this and being lenient on the policy. He has stepped in and turned this struggling school around quickly. The teachers are fantastic and care about students. The culture at this school is improving!Parent Review9y ago - Bryan Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe other day I watched as Curtis Orthodontics donated a snow cone truck at to Winton Elementary. It was right in the play ground, only kids who sold tickets for curtis ortho ($10 each) were allowed to have a stupid snow cone. Even though this cost the PTA NOTHING. The k-6 children who couldn’t sell tickets or didn’t know anyone who would want to buy ortho tickets (only redeemable for curtis orthodontist treatments) we not allowed to have one and had to watch all the other kids eat snow cones on an extremely hot day. That sucked for the other kids to have to deal with at school and I felt horrible for them. I’ve spent over $6,000 in ortho treatment at curtis orthodontist last year and you’re gonna tell me that my kids can’t have a freaking $2 snow cone with the rest of theirOther Review1y ago - Fernan STEM Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageStarting with the office staff, everyone is competent and involved. They know my child by name, are well organized, and somehow make everyone feel at home. We were initially given a tour by Mrs. Franklin. She loves her job and the children she works with. She is committed to providing a safe place for children to express themselves and understand right from wrong, either in their behavior or how they are being treated. My child often shares the 'Never Never' safety rules Mrs. Franklin taught them, which establish great life-long safety habits. I also had the privilege of meeting with Mr. Rutherford who took the time to personally talk with me and answer all of my questions. He sets an incredible example of how to run a school. He is very professional and loving. He acknowledges good behavior and the achievements of his students. His staff, students, and parents alike, have great respect for his example. My daughter has Mrs. Hall this year. She has made my daughters classroom feel like family. They learn so much in a week academically and she always takes the time to provide wisdom in life and social lessons as well. One example that we all use at home know is, "Great thinkers, think before they do." She leads by example by being an intelligent, kind, respectful teacher my daughter looks up to. Not to mention the fact my girl is now reading books, constantly making up mathematic equations, and she is on fire for science and experimenting. The students have special learning activities daily such as library, computer/tech lab, music, PE, and art. Fernan provides fun family activities for the whole family to join in and learn such as the STEM night we recently attended.I cannot speak highly enough about the learning environment Fernan STEM Academy has provided for my child. My daughter is learning how to love learning from successful, kind life-learners. We are lucky to be a part of this school and all they have to offer!Parent Review7y ago - Lighthouse Christian Academy
