We were active duty military for many years and have been involved in many different schools over the years in many states and overseas. This is BY FAR the worst school we have encountered. This school is too overcrowded for the administration to have control over the student body. There was an incident where our exchange student had pages and pages of swastikas were shoved in her backpack, I went immediately to the school and saw a Vice Principal with the exchange student and the papers. He listened and agreed that this was unacceptable. NOTHING was done. EVER. This is just one of many incidences that have prompted us to move our 2 children to another district.Posted by a parent on 8/25/2017
This school will make you feel out of place or unimportant at least once a week. Students are not the number one priority at this school, especially for the school administrators. Conflicts are always resolved slowly, and that is only if you can find a school official (counselor, secretary, principal, book keeper) who cares enough to help. The administrators in the office all have bad attitudes, are not understanding of issues, and are resentful when you require their assistance. I as a student do not feel like they do what they can to help me or my classmates when we are in need of it. I have felt like a constant nuisance for the past four years and there has not been a time where I went to the administrators in the office for help that I did not leave feeling belittled and distressed.Posted by a student on 9/26/2014

My son has been a student at Hillcrest and he loves the school, as do I. Such friendly teachers and staff who really care about the students, as well as a safe and fun environment with plenty of activities for all types of kids. This has truly been the best and most enjoyable school my son has ever attended, and we're both sad to leave, but he's now graduating! Thanks to everyone at Hillcrest for the wonderful memories you've created for the class of 2012! :)Posted by a parent on 5/24/2012

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child was falsely accused of hurting other children by his first grade teacher. I have spoken with parents of students involved and they all say their children said that nothing happened. An aid Krystal apparently saw my child hurting other children. I have seen her jab her finger into the forehead of a girl she is a therapist for and push her around. I have not received support as a parent for my child with regards to his academic progress.Parent Review8y ago

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI had a very unique experience at this school. the leadership in the office including the school secretary-administrator and the principal were extraordinary. They are the best i have experienced. they were so helpful and kind, but the experience with my child's teacher maybe one that will take time for my child to get over. the job of a teacher should be to protect and teach not bully. the good thing is that you can tell that with the current leadership being as kind as they are and as disengaged teachers leave, the school environment should slowly get better, but for now it appears that the teachers approach to education at this school is directly contributing to the lower rating that this school currently receives.Parent Review2y ago

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have had experience with multiple schools in the area and have found such a positive environment at Edgemont Elementary. The building, teachers, PTO, and support staff work hard to keep a family atmosphere that addresses the needs of students academically as well as basic needs. This school cares about its families and students. We love being Eagles!Parent Review2y ago
