Read what parents are saying about Stone Mountain High SchoolMoved to this school from Hamilton in Marin County CA... This school reminds me of one of those 90's movies where the principal needs to carry a bat, absolutely the most dangerous place to send your kids. Daily fights, the teachers are just as bad as some of the students, home school before you send your child here.
Posted by a community member on 3/26/2024The first thing I want to begin with about this review is that the majority of reviews about SMHS are outdated.A School can change in 1 Year A School can change in 2. There's been a principal switch, keep that in mind. This review was made Early January 2023Family Engagement- 3.5/5- The school tries, so hard to get teachers in the PTA... There's the School Newsletter, there's Infinite Campus. The school overall tries so hard to get parents engaged but I feel like the parents are used to the unconnected SMHS of before and there has been little success from what I've heard. If you are a parent reading this, we don't have many parent-targeted events here at the rock but if any gets released like say the Winter School Beautification Project or a PTA meeting... Take the time to join in, it's easy to get connections with the staff and Principal Casta!Learning/Teaching- 4.7/5- Yes we have AP classes, as of right now I've heard about and can confirmed:- AP Human Geography - AP World History: Modern - AP US History - AP Art (Might be discontinued due to lack of students to form class) - AP Lang - AP Statistics - AP LIt is a special occasion because the school is open and students are open but there isn't a teacher available so it's a might as of now... (11th Grade) Our teachers not only just teach the content but most do take the time to push and encourage students. Instead of a depressing classroom where the teacher talks all day, teachers here get their teaching done and give out their assignments, letting students talk while completing the assignment. Our teachers take the time to actually form friendships with nearly EVERY single student. And with all of that, COMMUNITIES FORM. And these communities I think are what makes our school powerful. Social-Emotional Support 5/5 Stars As I said about, REAL friendships between the teacher and the students form. Students have plenty of teachers to go to if there's a problem. Teachers like to make sure their students are okay and help out/understand if life happens.Clubs- 4/5 Stars Our sports teams are state and county levels. We have all sorts of sports from our state-level Wrestling to male and female basketball, volleyball, baseball or softball. And there is also academic clubs like National Honor Society, Sr. Beta Club, NJROTC, Aura (All Womens), FBLA, A new ACTIVE Student Government Association, Marching Pirates, Dancing Rubies, Cheerleaders, the Media Team, and International Club.

Posted by a teacher on 7/10/2019As a parent, I have never felt fully welcomed at SMHS. When I would visit the front desk receptionist was rude and almost dismissive. The Principal was never there or available and the new Principal has taken this same stance. She is rarely at the school and when she is, she never is aware of the things going on. Teachers are bullies. They are talking disrespectfully to students and kicking them out of school for minor infractions. Overall I will be withdrawing my student because I do not feel he is receiving the education he deserves.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI wish I could give zero stars. My daughter was sexually assaulted by a boy here in third grade on the bus. It was reported to two principals, the bus driver and I was ensured his parents were told and they apparently were not until over six months later. The same boy showed up at my home when my child had switched to virtually only. He then assaulted my dog. He began stalking her at our home and sexually harassing her. The school refused to do anything because it was not on the bus although that is where he was coming from. I was told to call Dekalb Police who when I called, told me this was a school issue. The board of education said the school should have offered a meeting on school grounds between parents which I actually asked for four times and was told, “we don’t do that.” That was a lie. Finally after months, an assault, an assault on my pet and harassment, the principal told this boys mother…finally….but then told the mother to show up at my home to talk to me without asking my permission for that. The principal said for the mother to have her son show her where we lived and just show up since they would not allow a conversation on neutral school grounds. I was not comfortable with this, this was dangerous and told the principal so who then refused to call the woman back and tell her not to show up to my home. Of course the mother didn’t show because why would she address her son’s assaults? I gave up, I had done everything right with the chain of command but no one would help and no one cared. They put my child in class with that same boy this year. I told the teacher who is the only one who cared. She told the counselor who was not informed of how this boy escalated. She was pushed out of handling the issue by the principal last year and had no idea how bad it got. This school is dangerous, does not teach well, and supports kids who sexually assault little girls. Due to all of this, I am choosing to leave the state entirely next year.Parent Review1y ago - Jolly Elementary School
