Read what parents are saying about Stone Mill Elementary SchoolThis school has a fairly large issue with bullying. I believe it is something that Dr. Clark has worked on addressing, but the students aren't reprimanded enough when they do wrong. Continue to work with the parents and support the teachers. There are some good teachers and parents in this community. The only other is issue is that the computers throughout the school are very slow yet they put a lot of emphasis on technology. It would be good if they could upgrade the computers for this school. It does help that they have personal laptops or notebooks that can be used. More training and utilization of their technology would be good though. For example, using the Promethean boards for surveys, etc.
Posted by a community member on 1/12/2017I had a hard time getting my child admitted into the school when we moved out here from a different state. The office was not helpful and when I would call no one answered, returned calls, and you couldn't leave a message because voicemail are full. Once my child started we found out teachers say shut up to students, which she's not used to. The students are rude, cuss, and talk about sex even in front of adults. My child never dealt with this at other schools. It's also hard to get correct information from anyone. Every week I'm writing or up at the school to make sure of information and even then they don't always know. I hope not all GA schools are this or my child will need to be home taught. They need to get their stuff together. It's easy to see why they didn't do well on their tests.

Posted by a parent on 11/7/2016If you love your children, do not put them are Stone Mill. Wish my son was there when the staff was capable of educating and protecting them. The children at stone mill are monsters, well some of them and they are not punished for their bad behavior. Bullying is at an all time high. Students CRCT scores in math are 46% passing and 74% in reading. Instead of focusing on before and after school programs such as music, art, or basketball, they need to focus on tutoring these children so that they can pass the minimum basic shills test. If their parents can't read they should be able to attend tutoring too. How else can we establish a productive and successful society. Time out for elem school wanna be gang bangers. Back to basics.

It was reported to two principals, the bus driver and I was ensured his parents were told and they apparently were not until over six months later. The same boy showed up at my home when my child had switched to virtually only. He then assaulted my dog. He began stalking her at our home and sexually harassing her. The school refused to do anything because it was not on the bus although that is where he was coming from. I was told to call Dekalb Police who when I called, told me this was a school issue. The board of education said the school should have offered a meeting on school grounds between parents which I actually asked for four times and was told, “we don’t do that.” That was a lie. Finally after months, an assault, an assault on my pet and harassment, the principal told this boys mother…finally….but then told the mother to show up at my home to talk to me without asking my permission for that. The principal said for the mother to have her son show her where we lived and just show up since they would not allow a conversation on neutral school grounds. I was not comfortable with this, this was dangerous and told the principal so who then refused to call the woman back and tell her not to show up to my home. Of course the mother didn’t show because why would she address her son’s assaults? I gave up, I had done everything right with the chain of command but no one would help and no one cared. They put my child in class with that same boy this year. I told the teacher who is the only one who cared. She told the counselor who was not informed of how this boy escalated. She was pushed out of handling the issue by the principal last year and had no idea how bad it got. This school is dangerous, does not teach well, and supports kids who sexually assault little girls. Due to all of this, I am choosing to leave the state entirely next year.Parent Review1y ago - Jolly Elementary School
