N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL!! I WALKED OUT AFTER THE DIRECTOR TOLD ME THAT I WAS NOT ABLE TO OBSERVE MY DAUGHTER IN THE CLASSROOM!! This was my first encounter with the Montessori schools, so with it being my child's first day, I wanted to observe how the teacher would interact with my daughter and how my daughter would interact with the other children. I told the director that I would like to observe and she asked, how long?" I replied that I wanted to observe and she told me "that's not how we do things. It's just a drop off and go". I told her I understand that when it's an every day basis, but with this being our first day, I wanted to see how the teacher works with children. She said, "Montessori is not like that. And we don't do that here. We're not going to start class until 9:30a". (Clearly your paperwork with the curriculum states 8:30a). I asked her what does she have to hide???!!! What parent just drops off their child without the opportunity to observe their child in the classroom setting for the FIRST TIME in the school??!! Not me!! Needless to say, we did not stay!!Parent Review11y ago - Anderson-Livsey Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe really enjoyed our experience at ALEs. I am a parent of students who have attended GCPS in both elementary and high school, I have also subbed across the county in all grades, and I have to say that my experience at ALES is unmatched. I enrolled my girls there on a permissive transfer after several horrible experiences and safety concerns with our local zoned school (a gun was "found" in a donation of school supplies? Go figure) and I can say over the entire school year not a day went by that I did not drive away giving thanks for my girls being at this school. I pay attention to details and I believe that this is a school that has worked to create a particular culture of caring that is nurturing to students. From the front desk, Ms. Gigi & Mr. Reed always love on the babies from the moment they walk in. They are also welcoming to parents which is so important in this post-Columbine, locked door, show your ID type of world we live in now. I really respect and admire the principal, Ms. Vigilant, because I see her working in all facets of the school whether carpool lane, lunch or recess - she's in the trenches. This lets me know she respects the job of everyone she leads. The other principals are also very approachable and I like the interactions I see with them and students. I've never heard any teacher speak rudely or in anyway that is not uplifting to students. Every interaction I've had with staff from janitors to teachers across the board is always friendly and cheerful. This is really rare in the many schools I've been in as a sub. My kids teachers are always responsive. And, there are some behavioral problems with students, but I see that these children are worked with and dealt with respectfully, and not just dismissed as "bad". As a permissive transfer school, they probably are a last resort for some students, but it's really nice to see that these students will receive positive reinforcement in these elementary years so that hopefully they will not grow into worse behaviors.Although we won't be returning because public school is simply not a good fit for our family, I know my girls will have fond memories of their days at ALES and I definitely wanted to share with others how great a school I think this is for those moving to the area or looking for an alternative school to attend in GCPS.Parent Review11mo ago
