Centerville Elementary School

I wanted to share our experience because it might help other parents of advanced learners. When my daughter attended this school, I repeatedly asked about gifted testing because she was showing early reading and math skills far beyond grade level. I was told she wasn’t showing gifted ability because she was “having trouble adjusting.”After transferring schools, she was assessed and scored in the 99th percentile overall, performing above grade level in phonics, phonological awareness, and high-frequency words. These results confirmed exactly what I’d seen all along.A child can struggle to adjust and still be gifted. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive. I hope the school takes situations like this as a reminder to look deeper before dismissing a parent’s concerns — some kids just need understanding, not limits.

in 2005 i was in kindergarten, i was in a contained class because i didn’t have a good attention span, in the class room there was a 4x4 room with mirrors in the corner and a steel door with a window, whenever i was “misbehaving” i would get put in the room for the remainder of the day, the lights would be turned off when the rest of the students went to lunch and i was left there, the teacher of this class was a heavy set older woman and her form of discipline was telling me to lay on the floor so she could sit on me… im not kidding you, id yell i couldn’t breath and she’d tell me “shut up yes you can”. at the time i didn’t know this wasn’t ok so my mother didn’t learn about this until years and years later. there were other horrific things that occurred in that class room but it’ll haunt me forever, obviously i laugh about it now but if i knew better back then my family would probably own the school haha. but that’s my experience

For me Shiloh elementary school is the place for my son . Great teamwork and communication between teachers and parents is excellent.

Great. Teachers can not do all. I'm encouraging all parents to be part.
