Read what parents are saying about McDonough High SchoolThis has to be one of the most unsafe schools in America. Students bring guns, drugs, etc. Teachers are barely teaching. Packets of work are handed out. Administrators are not concerned with child safety or academic growth. Worst mistake my family ever made. We move back North in 6 months.
Posted by a parent on 12/5/2023This school is very violent, lots of fights. There have been guns seen in the build plenty of times, a gun even went off last year. I don't recommend this school to anyone!
Posted by a student on 8/10/2023This school is one of the worst schools I've ever been to. There is no source of stability in the school. Students are allowed to do anything, overpopulated, and no authority in place.

Posted by a student on 8/20/2018I have a son attending HCHS now with a recent graduate and another up and coming child to attend. Personally I love the school. Many give HCHS a bad rep because it is a predominately black school and the oldest, in McDonough but to be honest, the majority of the other schools have much more going on in discipline problems. Educational wise, you get out of it what you put into it just like any other school; especially now with the Academy attached to it. Your child needs to own up to their shortcomings and the parents as well. We parents need to know whats going on in our kids lives, educational setting, etc. There are too many sporting events that I have attended that always have the same supportive parents; as with band and choral concerts, etc. Your children need your support, need to know you are going to be there to be their advocate. Being an advocate means to publically support them, back them up when they are right, and just to be a good example for them to follow. The school itself needs you to be an advocate. Being the oldest and now largest school in McDonough or Henry County, HCHS is still in need of a few repairs. The new stadium bleachers are great but the field and track are in need of some work. We as parents need to join the Parent Council and any other advisory boards to get the work done and to get the proper equipment our kids need to be successful. HCHS can be a beast in sports, academic bowls, and other extra-curricular activities if we can all work together and get it done. Two or three parents will have a "voice" but it will take two or three hundred to be heard. One prime example is the NJROTC Orienteering Team. Sr Chief Moss came into the program with 3 or 4 students and knew nothing about the sport. Now he is one of the most respected orienteering coaches in our Area 12 region and in the country since our HCHS NJROTC Orienteering team National Champions for the second straight year. With A team of 40 or so cadets, without awesome parental support there is no way he could do it. That is a PRIME example of what supportive parents can do. As I said before, HCHS is a great school and what you put into it is definitely what you will get out of it!! Forget the naysayers, they don't know about us!!

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have 2 children who attend Wesley Lakes. My daughter attended from 2019-2023 from 2nd-5th grade. My son attended pre k and is now in kindergarten for the 2023 school year. Both my children liked the school and their teachers. My daughter is advanced and struggled to feel challenged but that is a one off for her specifically. My son really enjoys it and is challenged every day. The staff has always been courteous and professional. There was an instance of bullying that the Assistant Principal Mr. Wright addressed immediately. Overall I believe the teachers actually take their work seriously and do a good job with the students. I've enjoyed having my children here. I think the school is stretched thin and will benefit from having another elementary school open up soon.Parent Review8mo ago - Walnut Creek Elementary School
