Buchanan Middle School

Lake Magdalene Elementary is a great school. The staff are very kind and welcoming and the teachers I've experienced truly care about the kids and wanting them to grow. There is a lot of communication posted about events. The principal and assistant principal (Sierra and Kim) have great energy. I'd definitely recommend this school to anyone considering it.

It took me very long to write this review because my son has been going to the school since kindergarten and he’s now in first grade. I recently disenrolled him from the school because the school is all over the place. I’m going to start by saying if you’re a young mom in your 20s and you have a young kid you’re definitely going to treat you differently as if they don’t owe you respect they’re going to yell at you in the car line when you pick up your child and they’re going to talk to you like you’re slow and they’re going to be making faces at you because you look young secondly I sent in many forms that my child was allergic to tree nuts. They sent my son home with the peanut butter and jelly sandwich in his book bag, and they also set him next to another kid who had a peanut butter sandwich, causing him to have a allergic reaction. Also, my son got bullied at this school and the teacher did not inform me they took his money and was calling him broke for weeks because he did not wear jewelry to school. They used to also take his snacks. The teacher did not tell me anything about this. My kid had to tell me and then when I wanted to address it, they just told me to write something down on a paper and never got back to me. The lady in the front office has a sweet tone, but if you take your kid to school late, she will have an attitude. The nurse is the best person at the school. She is super hands-on. She’s very smart. She is very aware Miss Theo the first grade teacher is a awesome teacher. I do wish she could’ve stopped my son from getting bullied, but that wasn’t the case. As far as the school in general he has learned so much his reading has gotten a lot better. they have awesome teachers. They also greet you in the beginning of the school period with bubbles in music to get the kids excited for school would I recommend the school to anyone probably not the allergic reaction thing rug me the wrong way and the bullying rubbed me the wrong way some of the staff members are very unprofessional and rude. I’m glad we switched cities. Also the school times are very shortened compared to other school times 740 in the morning to 1:55 PM. My son‘s new school is 8:30 in the morning to 3 PM and they don’t allow you to come in the school to have lunch with your child, his new school does he said he loves his new school way better than the last one beware of the school.

Toxic and high-stress work environment. Never had an experience so awful in my life. It broke my heart because I loved working with the children and was devoted to them; however, the teacher treated me in a degrading and prejudiced way. I am high functioning, but have a slight learning disability and was targeted relentlessly by this teacher. The teacher literally stood by, and did not nothing while I received non-stop passive-aggressive by not just her, but by her assistants, as well. I was new and starting off in the field, and unfortunately, this experience was discouraging and traumatizing. There is not one way to do things, and I was nothing but hands-on and supportive of those children; however, the classroom setting was filled with prejudism and miserable individuals. When I defended myself after the non-stop harassment, the teacher yelled at me, when all I did was defend myself after the harassment. The teacher and the assistant “told on me” without even talking it out and did so behind my back, knowing I was new and doing my best; they still let me go. I’m a single mom, and this was supposed to be my main source of income, but they didn’t care. It was like walking on eggshells every day, filled with miserable human beings in the classroom, and the environment they created was unacceptable. Would not recommend to anyone. The front desk people were nice though, so I added a star, as this is not against them, but I do think if that teacher is that judgmental and miserable, then she should probably retire.

I didn't like how things were handled with my child.

This is such a wonderful school! The teachers are so caring and the education offered is phenomenal! The school is like a family. My only complaint is that it only goes up to 8th grade! If not, we'd be here through high school!

I had multiple children go here. For a christian school it is far from it. Honestly, the current principal punishes students for everything. From having different views from hers, for opinions that doesn't match hers. Students that try to stick up for themselves get in trouble and shutdown. The teachers aren't that great either.

If you are a parent and searching for an upper school for your child, walk away from CDS. Do not be fooled by the pretty campus and smiling faces. This is not a place where they care about your child or put the child's needs ahead of the school--they ONLY care about the money coming in and the reputation of the school . There is a sickness in the administration. Don't get me wrong, there are some good people and good teachers there. The problems come from the administration. If you encounter any problems of any kind, they will close ranks and defend the school at all cost. They will side with the biggest donor, they will manipulate you to keep your tuition flowing. Take my advice, as a parent of two children who have attended CDS for the past 7 years, choose another school.
