Read what parents are saying about Miami Arts Charter SchoolCaring teachers, amazing theater, music, art, photography exhibitions and performances. Impressive student work all around. Great public charter school in the heart of the design district.
Posted by a parent on 9/19/2022I have decided to finally write a review on this school after all of these years. Due to the recent decision to implement uniforms, i am been encouraged to write this. I would love to start with the positive things about this school. The teachers (a good amount of them) care very much about the students. While at the school, I have personally encountered many bad situations, most of which should never take place in a school. When I brought them up to a higher level staff member, they basically turned a blind eye and told me they can't do anything about it. My teachers (present and past) were the ones who helped me, not the student services. The next thing I would like to adress is the principal and owner of the school. In my opinion and based off of patterns I see with him, he does lots of things to benefit himself, not the school. This includes selling and closing the Homestead campus after he accepted new students for the following school year, this left the students to either find a new school or travel to the Wynwood campus. He has also built a "Listening Room" in our lobby. This knock-off restaurant sells drinks and food and has performances from the students. This would be a great idea if the tickets were not double the price of regular theater tickets. Now, about the uniforms. First of all, this is an ART school. Somewhere where it's basically a given that you need to express yourself. But, of course, the principal has decided to give us uniforms. Not only are they ugly and uncreative, they are expensive and they were suddenly sprung on to us in the middle of the Summer. This means new students who applied to MAC thinking there were no uniforms have been tricked. I'm willing to bet they accepted way more people this year than ever before. I would also like to mention that this principal is barely ever there and when he is he stays in his office until the bells ring. Then he goes into the halls to look for dress codes, probably so he feels he has some kind of authority in this school. The person who really runs the show is The vice principal, who I don't even think is working there because he is not on the website anymore. Also the arts are funded unproportionately and it shows. The performing arts literally have TV's in their room along with music studios, while the less performing arts struggle to get supplies that are needed. There is a reason there are so many negative news articles when you type in MAC. I can't wait to graduate.
Posted by a student on 7/21/2022Unfortunately I cannot say much positive about this school.
Posted by a parent on 11/6/2019I can’t imagine how many children have suffered the heartbreak and emotional distress that my 12yr old has had to encounter but I’m going to be the voice for not only my daughter but all those other children as well. No child should be denied access to a public school based on RACE!

Every time I've had issues in regards to bullying Dr. Mckoy addressed the issue immediately ! I am so happy with how he handles situations and its very sad this school has such low ratings when itssuch a great school with great staff.Parent Review6y ago - Metropolitan International School of Miami
