Kendale Elementary School

I cannot say enough about Sunset Park Elementary. Both my children attended this school. My eldest is now in a Magnet High School taking all AP classes and my youngest is currently in Sunset Park's Gifted Program. The teachers are caring & excellent educators with years of experience. Administration is top notch & always available. The campus is located in a residential neighborhood with tons of green spaces. We're lucky to have had our kids attend Sunset Park Elementary.

Mostly inexperienced teachers with subpar qualifications. Expect a high turnover. New teachers are rarely better than the ones they are replacing. The administration (Herrera and her son ) are always looking for a lower-cost employee. No degree, OK! No English, OK! No manners, OK!Administration is unresponsive when it comes to dealing with any parent complaint/issue.Cafeteria is not air-conditioned. Your kids should be prepared to sweat!!! Bathroom conditions are deplorable, and should probably be reviewed by a building inspector and by DCF. This used to be a daycare so the stalls are build for toddlers. Any kids over 6 doesn't fit in the stalls!The religious education is practically no-existent. No clubs or art, music, languages. Only sports are Basketball and Cheerleading.Pros: Office staff (Ms. Flor and Ms. Dittmar are kind are caring), and the school has a nice open playground.

The teachers are great! They go above and beyond what is required of them. However, the administration is sub-par, and unprofessional. I called the office for five days, leaving a message concerning transcripts every day. No one returned my call. Even after a detailed message explaining the urgency of obtaining the transcripts for an approval for a scholarship...no call back. very unprofessional, no decent courtesy. What a pity to represent a great school so poorly! Shame!
