This school overall is decent. However I wish they had more cultural diversity and provide more anti bullying programs/ workshops. There needs to be more black/brown/latinos, theres not enough involvement for the parents, like RARELY. Therefore as a parent you feel left out of your childrens lives. Another factor, is the everyday tests and quizzes these kids have to complete! Seems like the school is worried about their ratings and numbers. One other factor is the teacher shortage, kids get so many teachers and the staff will move the children from one class to another like nothing, for example they change the kids homeroom teacher a lot. Seems very upsetting.

The school is supportive of students academic, social, and spiritual development. The teachers truly care about the students. They have lots of success in getting students accepted to UF, FSU, And other top notch schools.

My son loved going to Waterleaf. Great neighborhood school!!!

Hi im a former student who attended this school from 6th through 8th grade. In my opinion, one of the biggest issues is the constant teacher turnover and switching. Students are often left with substitutes or replacement teachers who do not properly teach the material and instead give us large packets to complete. At the start of 25-26 I had a good ELA teacher who taught my class a lot and helped raise my FAST score. After he left due to his mental health, we got a different teacher who often gave us huge amounts of packets instead of teaching lessons. This caused a lot of stress, especially when assignments from other classes were also piling up, and my PM3 ELA FAST score dropped. I also really appreciated the counselors, especially my former sixth-grade history teacher who later became a counselor. Another issue is that administration does not always seem to take student concerns seriously. There have been situations involving students being harassed, administrators speaking negatively about students, and a former science teacher telling biology students to “teach yourselves” after refusing to teach. Multiple students reported concerns about this, but it felt like nothing was done. I also believe certain administrators need to improve their attitudes toward students. To be fair, Coastal had some positive aspects, including its grading and remediation policies, and some great staff members. I hope the school takes these concerns seriously and works to improve instead of ignoring them.
