Apopka High School

My kindergartner was promoted into first grade with out knowing how to write numbers 1-10 or the alphabet. I was told they stopped teaching children how to write. They figured they’d just “pick it up” with letter recognition. He was frequently given 20 page packets of homework. I stil cannot figure out for the life of me what they were doing all day at that school. Classroom and recess management was poor at best. My child got stabbed in the head with a pencil. In the same week he also got in trouble for playing tag. The assistant principal decided to open an investigation on who started the game of tag. We were told that it “didn’t matter” what was happening at recess, and there was no point in monitoring recess because they couldn’t take it away as a consequence. “Recess is a right and we can’t take it away because some parents got upset and took it to court.” She told us she was fed up with the school district because they wouldn’t buy her business cards. We are homeschooling.

It has many pluses which include dedication and communications with teachers and admin about our kids. they go out of their way to help children become proficient. This is the best school they have attended and they enjoy going there. I give a big thumbs up for this school.

honestly i liked the school I went there when I was ten I wasn't bullied or shamed for something thee was nice teachers I had tons of friends I had fun at this school and I hope you do to if you go to it

My son's been here since kindergarten and he's in 5th grade now and the last 3 years have been a nightmare. They have been through so many principles and all the office people see a nightmare and one of the only good faculty member there that actually Advocates for the kids and families hates the staff and other employees so much she quit. Bullying is horrible and nothing is noticed or done unless you make a big deal about it. Dismissal is even worse the kids do whatever they want and that is when bullying is even worse. Just all around a horrific school there is a reason they are a 2 star school and have a 60% score for over all testing. I would find an alternative if at all possible and if not prepare yourself for yard times.

Amazing teachers and all the parents are involved!

My son went to CFP for one year after moving to Central Florida. School rigidity with students discipline, monitored bathroom breaks, lack of academic options, and no pathways to dual enrollment were just some of the school problems. Even though he loved a couple of teachers, we cannot be happier with taking him out of this school. He is currently finishing his senior year on our local public school and thanks to the available extracurriculars and great guidance from teachers and counselors he has been accepted to a couple of the top universities in his field of study. Now the reason for this review, my son recently applied to Purdue University for a food science program (#3 in the nation) and wanted the teacher that inspired him into that field to be able to write one of the required recommendation letters, he had been asking her without success for months now. We recently ended up calling the school to see what was happening with it and we were told that the school prohibits by contract teachers to provide recommendation letters to students. Top schools will never force you to provide recommendation letters but not having them will not just hinder but put your kid at a disadvantage against other students that do have them. That policy not just punishes your kid but the teacher can loose their job if they engage, therefore if having your kids apply to the top schools in the nation you may better look at other options as this school could become an obstacle for them.
