Rock Springs Elementary School

My kindergartner was promoted into first grade with out knowing how to write numbers 1-10 or the alphabet. I was told they stopped teaching children how to write. They figured they’d just “pick it up” with letter recognition. He was frequently given 20 page packets of homework. I stil cannot figure out for the life of me what they were doing all day at that school. Classroom and recess management was poor at best. My child got stabbed in the head with a pencil. In the same week he also got in trouble for playing tag. The assistant principal decided to open an investigation on who started the game of tag. We were told that it “didn’t matter” what was happening at recess, and there was no point in monitoring recess because they couldn’t take it away as a consequence. “Recess is a right and we can’t take it away because some parents got upset and took it to court.” She told us she was fed up with the school district because they wouldn’t buy her business cards. We are homeschooling.

It has many pluses which include dedication and communications with teachers and admin about our kids. they go out of their way to help children become proficient. This is the best school they have attended and they enjoy going there. I give a big thumbs up for this school.

Amazing teachers and all the parents are involved!

We recently switched our 3-year-old from Primrose Longwood to Starchild Academy Apopka due to curriculum. We have seen her educationally grow leaps and bounds in only a month of time. The structure at this school is specifically designed for education and learning. Every day, I know what work my daughter has done, will do, and what was completed that day/week. The transparency on what she is learning is amazing and we are so grateful that they had an open spot for her. I highly recommend this school to parents looking in the Longwood/Wekiwa Area!!

Be aware of the Little Red Schoolhouse. Though providing one on one instruction it is a very small school for those with behavior problems and disabilities. Staff is not properly trained and the are shorthanded in teachers, at times only 3-4 teachers for entire school. Students have been left unsupervised and special needs children are not getting the help they deserve. Also there is no specific grading system. More like a babysitter than a school. Ms. Lottie and the others care, but academically I give it an F. My son and daughter went there for a year and when I put them in public school they were a year behind.
