Read what parents are saying about Lake Brantley High SchoolSo far I don’t not feel like the experience has been great especially dealing with the guidance counselor. They should rename them to “schedule coordinator” that is all they seem to do. I have yet to experience any actual counseling going on. I have reached out to my child’s counselor and the head of the department and felt like I was not hear or my concerns taken seriously. The experience has been disappointing to say the least.
Posted by a parent on 8/3/2023I do not feel safe here. It's not just me, most students I've talked to have had very similar experiences here. Students of color and queer students get called slurs and are harassed on a daily basis, and when staff is presented with this information nothing changes. There seems to be a general lack of care from most of the staff, with the exception of a few outstanding teachers. Students with disabilities' accommodations are commonly brushed aside and neglected. Mental health is only addressed during the state-mandated five hours of instruction a year and through a deftly hidden New Horizons program. Many teachers seem tired of teaching and put very little effort into their curriculum, resulting in students coasting along in classes they learn nothing in. Granted, there are a few teachers who genuinely love what they do and do a wonderful job teaching and supporting their students, but these are few and far between. If you want your child to learn, feel safe and supported, and become academically successful, do not send them to this school. The only thing this school has to offer that others in the area do not is a financial program, so unless your child has had a lifelong dream of becoming an accountant, it's not worth it.
Posted by a student on 3/23/2023Fantastic school. Excellent IB programs. Great caring teachers... excellent administration. Many students move on to colleges...highly recommended.
Posted by a parent on 7/15/2022Transphobic. Homophobic. Overall hostile environment. If you care about your mental health do not go there. Actually skip that just don't go to Florida at all
Posted by a parent on 2/20/2022Problem with Admin - A guidance counselor literally told me that letters of recommendation are considered "frowned upon" for college applications. When brought to the attention of an assistant principal, I hit another dead wall. Communication and Admin - poor

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a single mom moving across country with my 10 year old in a new state we were unfamiliar with, I will say that my child enjoyed attending Spring Lake. The students had many days off last year due to the hurricane and teacher / staff meetings which is more than what I'm used to. They also have early days and my child probably had homework once every two weeks. They mainly had the students testing. The teachers do communicate and are understanding. My child had an issue with another student in her class at the beginning of the year and it was addressed immediately. They have a decent system with school pickup/drop off which is safe for the students and convenient for the parents. Overall, I like the school.Parent Review1y ago - Forest City Elementary School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTo be honest, the problem is the entire system. Children w/ special needs don't fit in boxes. One child w/ special needs is just one child w/ special needs. Teachers and staff need to recognize that they aren't medical professionals, they must listen to the parents, follow medical recommendations instead of trying to make generic assumptions about a child's behavior based on "experience" instead of the child's medical and academic history. School should not be a traumatic or a survival experience, specially elementary school. Teachers need to slow down on the complaints and work with the parents to find solutions, but who can blame them? One teacher for over 20 students? Teachers should be better trained to recognize when a child is being defiant vs a child in distress. Talk to the kid, ask if something happened and give time for that child to explain. Don't ignore the child to then realize part of the behavior was a result of something else, such as bullying. Or, ignore the child when he's having difficulty communicating to then be confronted by the parent asking why their child's face is red (because another kid slapped him) or why is my child telling me another kid touched him inappropriately and the teacher responds "I thought they were playing" or why is my child telling me another kid threatened to kill him at lunch time and other kids came to the rescue. A lot can be said, but in order to say something the other side needs to be willing to listen.Parent Review6mo ago - Wekiva Elementary School
