Read what parents are saying about Jackson-Reed High SchoolI was impressed the way the teach are there time.good job
Posted by a parent on 5/24/2023As a teacher at Jackson-Reed High School (formerly Wilson), I can assure you that the pedagogical practices of the teachers are top notch and solid. With over 150 teachers and almost 2400 students in the building, there will always be a student who has an occasional difficulty with a teacher or has difficulties assimilating to the school's culture. But there is strength in diversity and the school has many opportunities for different types of students to find success.
Posted by a teacher on 8/23/2022We sent our oldest son here when we first moved to DC based on the Great Schools rating. Our son, who is typically very socially adaptable and academically engaged, quickly lost interest in school and began showing signs of depression and anxiety. When we finally got him to talk about what was happening at school, he said he was being bullied because he was “white” (he’s mixed). He also relayed that the teachers have a difficult time maintaining order in the classroom and classroom time is essentially just social time. Allegedly, the school is also known among DC high school students as the “fight school” for the amount of student fights they have.
Posted by a parent on 6/14/2022Going to 12th grade next year so far I found this school to be pretty good ever since I moved to D.C. from MD a lot better than the school I was supposed to attend in MD. I had a lot of great experiences and I can't wait for more to come my last year, it really went by like a blur. Also just wanted to say that if you want to become an athlete this is a good school to do so, most of the people in sports are in Crew/ Rowing. Make sure to treat other teachers with respect because most of them here will appreciate you for respecting them back and overall makes the classes a lot easier to go through especially AP classes, always study after school for them. Can't say I had some if any bad experiences at the school, although I think it is handling Covid-19 poorly and D.C. overall needs to do a better job. Lastly, for any possible student that wants to go into engineering take Engineering Design first it's a lot more easier than Principles of Engineering it also prepares you for Physics if you want to take AP Physics in 11th or 12th maybe even 10th if your counselor allows it, and always plan ahead.
Posted by a student on 3/2/2021This is our first year at Wilson High School and we could not be happier. There are so many interesting classes to choose from and dozens of clubs to join, not to mention the numerous sports teams students can join. If your children are interested in taking several AP classes, they can do so starting in 10th grade. My student loves every class and every teacher. There is a daily step hour during lunch period for students who do not finish work or needs the teacher's help. Coming from a HRCS where things were quite ambiguous and double standard,, Wilson is like a breath of fresh air. All grades are posted on Jupiter and are accessible at all times to parents and students. Challenges are met very professionally without any put downs or belittling of the student. If you are in boundary for Wilson, there is absolutely no need to think of enrolling your children elsewhere.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBased on our recent personal experience and conversations with some of the parents, Eaton Elementary is not best suited for children with special needs. Evaluations were taking a long time; there were examples of special needs children being bullied by their peers, and the LEA Representative was often inaccessible. I must say that we had a wonderful experience with other children and parents. The occupational therapist was great, very devoted, and S&L therapist and psychologist were fine too. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there was shockingly unethical behavior of the general education teacher and LEA Representative, which should have led to a disciplinary action. It is unfortunate that such unreliable persons found their place in Eaton.Parent Review1y ago - Janney Elementary School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe best school in DC BY FAR! Every single one of the staff members are very engaged with all of the students. They recognize and know each and every student by name. They foster and nurturing loving environment to make all new students and current students feel welcomed and heard /seen. They operate that if a private school so there are so many programs and courses before and after school for the children. They are learning at such and accelerated rate that my 5 year old who has never been to school has already learned how to read in a matter of months. They teach social studies, math, reading, writing anything you can imagine you name it to their kindergarteners. Imagine what is being taught to the upper level grades. They do not miss a beat on informing parents and keeping us up to date with what goes on at school. They are very transparent and interactive and available whenever you need them. There’s just so much good to say about this school I’m absolutely in love with the environment. I’ve seen nothing but kindness from all students. No bullying everyone is very supportive of one another which I love! Another great thing is that students who are struggling a little in a subject are taken out of class and into McAllen groups to help keep them ahead with their peers in whichever lesson they might be needing xtra work on instead of not caring and letting them fall behind.Parent Review1mo ago - Hearst Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMSCC is a wonderful school. Our son has been attending for the past year (from 1.5 to 2.5 years old), and my husband and I are continually amazed at our son’s social, emotional, and developmental growth. The toddler teacher, Ms. Pfefferman, is an amazing teacher and caregiver. Her love and care for her students is so special and I love watching my son develop strong bonds with her and all of his friends at school. Our friends abs family constantly comment how advanced our son is in all aspects of development and we know it is because of this school.Parent Review2y ago - Beauvoir - The National Cathedral Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNPS is a special place that focuses on your child developing as a whole person through a loving community, character building, and strong academics. We have loved the experience and feel privileged to be a part of it! Thanks to the Head of school and deliberate efforts by the administration, it is becoming much more diverse and we see this in both our children’s classes where more that 60% of the students are people of color.Parent Review2y ago
