Haddam-Killingworth High School

I strongly believe this is an above average school. Of course, like any high school, it has its issues but overall the teachers want to support you and the administration is there to help you. You will succeed at this school and beyond if you put in the effort. AP and honors classes are rigorous and taught by excellent teachers. At those levels homework is a lot, but doable if you are dedicated. There are great opportunities for leadership, community service, extracurriculars, clubs, athletics, etc. The music department is fantastic, as is track and field and cross country. I'm glad for the time I spent at this school.

My daughter received a high quality education at H-K high. She was enrolled in honors and AP classes, so I'm not familiar with the quality of the lower level classes or how well the school supports kids with learning differences. However when my daughter experienced a long term illness the teachers and counseling department worked hard to get her back on track, so I assume that would be representative of their overall approach for all students. I saw a lot of quality in her coursework, and while her work load was more than what I had to carry in high school 100 years ago, it prepared her well for college. Great music and sports opportunities. Track and cross-country programs are excellent and provide a good social venue. I also understand they have good connections with colleges, especially with UCONN and Middlesex CC. I'm told acceptance into Middlesex is virtually guaranteed if you graduate, and that UCONN classes are offered for advanced students during high school. I'd say those are some pretty valuable pluses.

It was very awful. I hated it

HK is and was an excellent school with more programs available than any other school in the area. Want to learn metalworking, electrical or woodworking...no problem. Want to be an engineer, chemist or scientist...just check out their science labs. You will be hard pressed to find a better facility and curriculum to pursue your interests. I wish I had the opportunity to send my child to this school, but alas, I graduated long ago and moved away. I now have three degrees and feel HK gave me the tools necessary to excel in college.

As a parent of two children that are in the school district. I can only say great things about the schools and the teachers. First my daughter is in 10th grade at the high school she is a honors student . The classes that they offer are great the sports that they offer are great. The teachers are very easy to talk to when needed. We moved here from Clinton for this school because of its high recommendations from other parents. Thank you RSD 17.
