Mortensen Elementary School

We have been with Dutch Creek for six years now. We really enjoy the community environment. The PTA puts on amazing events. Our daughter has loved all of her teachers and they seem care about giving the students the help they need to succeed.

We enrolled our stepdaughter at Collegiate Academy of Colorado for her final two years of high school after trying a few other schools in the area, and it has been by far the best fit for her needs. The small class sizes, strong communication, and the level of support from teachers, staff, and administration truly stand out. They also provide thoughtful mental health support and accommodations when needed. It’s been a wonderful environment for her, and we’re very grateful we found this school.

Stony Creek takes pride in teaching curriculum to their students, while also helping them to be kind, respectful, and responsible humans. They have been wonderful in preparing our kids for Kindergarten. They are willing to step forward and give extra attention where it is needed, whether that's through special education or with additionally challenging children who are excelling in the classroom.

This school has done a 180 since getting new administration. The sense of community is big, the teachers are so good, and overall a place I feel confident in sending my kids.

My daughter currently has Mrs. Laura and every time I am in classroom, I am blown away by the way she handles her classroom. The students respect for her and each other is evident, I don't think this is the vibe outside of MPA. I love the staff, front office and the Library and everyone! My daughter has told me that she wants her kids to go to Montessori and to attend in High School. It comes up at least once every few weeks. It's amazing and I am thankful for this community.

Our family moved into the district after our children had been at other schools previously, and we were welcomed with open arms. We love how close knit the community is, and how supportive of each other. The teaching staff truly cares for their students, and a lot of families live within walking distance so the playgrounds are always full of friends after school, and during weekends and the summertime. In terms of academics, I think it’s fair to say no kid actually “likes” everything they work on in school, but our children have been well supported in their needs, which have included an ALP. There is an annual science fair, as well as a spelling bee, monthly writing and perseverance awards, and several after school special programs on offer, including a run club. The library is robust, and there is a kid-run news program that goes out to the school. Band and orchestra are offered for the older grades, as well as art, music, and gym for all classes. The school does have a preK, and a SPED center. Class sizes are excellent! We have been pleasantly surprised by how much we love being a part of the CHE community- our previous schools were both blue ribbon DPS schools, but we’ve never experienced the warmth of a community like this one before. Heartily recommend this school for consideration!
