Read what parents are saying about Cory Elementary SchoolWARNING: DISCRIMINATION, SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND BULLY are the norms of this school, along with the indifferent and unprofessional leadership and teachers. My child has been going through all the three. There was even one discrimination teaching from a teacher with over 20 years teaching experience. The principle and vice principle didn't do anything to solve the three issues. They only pretended they cared. I've heard of similar problems from my kid's classmates. The indifferent and irresponsible leadership, teachers and staff are the main factor causing these horrible issues.
Posted by a parent on 1/15/2024Our kid had a wonderful Gr.1 and chose to stay at Cory for Gr.2 instead of going to a private school. This is a very well-funded school by generous parents and local businesses. The school had some struggles with last minute heat day cancellations but I think that will be better planned next year. Our kids attended after school Enrichment Class follow by Discovery Link regularly and loves going to school each day. Teachers are kind yet effective in teaching, communication, and embracing differences in learning styles. Kids are well equipped with latest tools and supplies. Lots fun events, field trips and community collaborations. Generally respectful families and kids that are active with extracurricular activities to keep busy and stay connected.
Posted by a parent on 9/13/2023Teachers use shaming as a tactic for discipline, and wonder why they don’t positive responses or results from the students. Sadly, this comes most often with the teachers with 20+ years of experience. It may have been acceptable 20 years ago, but not when we know so much more about child development and psychology. Wish the teachers would learn with the times as well.
Posted by a parent on 10/20/2022We cannot say enough wonderful things about this school and totally disagree with any negative comments. We have been at the school for almost 10 years with 3 children and have never heard of or seen bullying or inappropriate behavior. The parent community is extraordinarily involved and the teachers have been at the school for eons so they are engrained into the community and committed to the school. Due to parental involvement and a committed PTA, we are fortunate enough to have paras, full time music, art, and PE teachers, a beautiful school, amazing computer lab, instruments, and art supplies - which is not a guarantee with DPS. I feel so fortunate to give my kids the opportunities that they have at Cory. The school caters to all children of all educational levels - no one falls through the cracks. All three of my children have had all the support and been as challenged, as needed. The Principal is committed and responsive and clearly takes pride in the school and the community. We cannot recommend this school enough.
Posted by a parent on 2/17/2022This school is an absolute mess. The teachers belittle students, every day my kids come home having learned new inappropriate words, there’s unchecked sexual harassment happening from the 5th grade boys that gets brushed under the rug, and the leadership at this school is an absolute and total disgrace. No one even responds to emails! There is zero respect shown or cultivated between students with different views, lifestyles, or backgrounds. The bullying is out of control... Don’t send your kids to this school if you want to preserve one ounce of their confidence, integrity, or innocence.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI recently graduated from Ricks, I was there k-8 (11 years). While I have made lifelong friendships and have genuinely enjoyed my time there, I would not recommend this school to anyone. The academics have been subpar, setting me behind in my highschool experience. Ricks is a school that claims to be kid oriented and have gifted programs, but it is far from. Many of the administrators have no control over the school, and there are little to no “gifted” programs. I have seen some of the smartest students fail because of the lack of focus on students. I highly recommend asking about the teacher turnover, as there have only been a few teachers there for more than 3 years. Their staff is severely underappreciated and as more teachers quit, they are replaced by worse and worse teachers. If you are considering going here, I highly recommend reaching out to current parents of kids who go there. It is likely you will begin to see the never ending amount of problems at this school. As a person with a learning disability I feel my needs were not met and I was not accommodated to the full extent I should have been. As for mental health, this school had no clue what they were doing. In my time at middle school we would occasionally be called for an ”assembly” which consisted of a presentation on mental health and how to reach out if you needed help. I do not know anyone who used the tools they offered us. The presentations were ineffective, and on top of that, my friends and I had no trust in the school psychologist. In my experience, many of the teachers were amazing, they were our true friends and advocates. I loved each one of my teachers, but since I have left, all of them have either quit or plan to in the next few years. The only thing that kept me at this school was the teachers, who are truly superheroes. If you are looking into this school for your child, ask questions. Ask about what admin controls, why there are such small classes, why teachers keep quitting, what their gifted programs are, and how they plan to create a well rounded student.Other Review10mo ago - St Vincent De Paul School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy eldest attended several years ago, and had a wonderful experience in ECE 4s and Kinder. My second child attended for both ECE 3 & 4. Their experience in 3s was great! Ms. Hilary is so kind and patient and caring. Their experience in 4s was... well, it left a lot to be desired. The new principal is trying a mixed age approach for the kids, which sounds great on paper, but by the time my child was at the end of the year in 4s, they were mixed with kids who were just barely 3 1/2, as well as kids who had already been 5 for months. That is a huge difference for children in terms of their development, and we were very disappointed that the class was handled more like daycare than an ECE program. Had we been given the choice to keep our kid in a standard age class we certainly would have done that, and it seems that they have maintained a mix of classroom types. Additionally, the classroom staff experienced a very high amount of turnover, and the second teacher of the year even left 2 weeks before the end of school, without any notice. It felt very inconsistent, and whatever support was extended by the principal was not communicated very well to the parents. However, we know other families who have been very happy throughout, so perhaps we just had an unlucky year. They are very good about forming a community, however, and the pickup/dropoff situation really helps foster friendships among parents as well as the school staff.Parent Review5mo ago - Monument Charter Academy
