Read what parents are saying about North Middle SchoolI feel like North Middle School is the poster child of what not to do in a school. First, the school is old. It's been around for over 70 years at this point. Along with age comes lack of certain things, like decent ventilation. The school was shut down once in the 22-23 school year because of an "unexplained" smell. I'm still not sure we have gotten the truth about it. At least once a week, my child texts me, or tells me after school, that the school has a certain smell again and is starting to feel sick from it. Nothing is ever done. Pick up and drop off is just stupid at this school. There is no real parking area for parents to wait, so the road around the school is just littered with cars as parents park in the middle of the road to wait or in a cross walk. Students dare in between cars to get to their parents, but half the time you are lucky to see them. It's only a matter of time before a student is struck by a car at this school. Complaining to the school principal did nothing. Oh sure, she sent out one email about it and added a small snippet to the weekly emails, but no teachers, principal, security, or whatever is out there dealing with the matter (even after the principal promised it would be looked into.) I walk my child to and from the car because it's just that bad. Teachers don't really "teach" from what I have been told by my child. Her ELA teacher just hands her a packet of worksheets and tells her to figure it out. I could do that at home... couldn't I?Apparently kids can skip class here easily too and parents aren't told about it until 1-2 hours after school is out for the day. How can my child go to 6 classes in a row, but by the 7th class they just don't realize they are not in class? Do they not monitor the halls or bathrooms to make sure students are where they are meant to be? What happens if a child just decides to say "I don't want to be here" and walks out a door? Parents wouldn't know until after school when they pick the kid up! I'm so glad my student will not be attending this school next year. Between what I have listed and a bunch of other things (bullying, for example) I feel like my kid is going to need a lot of therapy over the summer because this school has done a number of them.
Posted by a parent on 5/16/2023We are happy with this school and glad we put our middle schooler here. We were a little worried at first when we read the reviews but we have had a very positive experience. Great programs and wonderful teachers.
Posted by a parent on 5/12/2022I LOVE THIS SCHOOL. this is one of the best schools ive been to i had such a good experience.
Posted by a student on 2/28/2022The extra curricular activities are amazing. The coaches and ones that run the extra activities do put all effort into it. But when it comes to the education and character they are suppose to teach the students they fall so far behind.
Posted by a parent on 9/22/2019This is a great school...but I don't think it is for every child. My daughter loves it and is doing great. However, there are many bad influences and a lot of kids who could care less about school. If your child is not somewhat self-motivated or is easily influenced, they can easily fall in "with the wrong crowd."

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe came from another alternative charter school nearby, which we left due to concerning academic achievement scores. At Buena Vista, our kids are challenged and cared for as their unique, individual selves. Individualized work plans come home every week, and my kids are excited to talk about the work they are doing at school. We are really appreciating the challenges they are presented with and the support they are receiving!Parent Review6mo ago - Columbia Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has attended here since kindergarten the staff has always been friendly her teachers do a good job as far as I can tell. I think any issues regarding children being bullied is way blown out of proportion and maybe the parents that keep posting bad reviews need to work on not being helicopter parents as much and maybe need to get there kids to toughen up a little bit. I know it's not fun but at some point your kids will have to grow up and face like real life and not get coddled anymore and at that point all your doing is setting your child up for failure by not giving them a chance to deal with some of life's adversity and conflict that they will inevitably have to face on their own so maybe all the bad reviews here that oddly said the same thing 10 different times that were probably all written by the same helicopter parent should consider not babying your kid quite as much and focus on teaching them to deal with conflict a tad bit better instead of crying and then having you go freak out on someone because you can't deal with your kid having a mark on them.(What does that even mean?) When I was in grade school I came home with marks all over, it wasn't cause It was a bad school it's because I was a rowdy little kid playing with friends on a playgroyund, it could be from running and falling on a gravel playground, or slipping on a monkey bar, or having monkey bar fights and falling off the monkey bars.Or trying to do a flip off the swings and falling as well 8000 other possible instances that would potentially leave a mark on me...even a dodgeball can leave a mark on a child's arm or leg. So I'd take the 1 star reviews posted with a grain of salt as it is pretty obvious the same upset parent has posted multiple bad reviews cause they are upset about not having there kid get babied continuously with no regard to how their kid probably acts when they are not present. Just a thought. But honestly I think this has done a.fine.up to now keep in mind when public.schools are all underfunded teachers are underpaid it doesn't create the best opportunity to create an amazing school experience when the school is understaffed the staff is underpaid the districts leadership is changing constantly so I think they best they can with the resources they have to work with.Parent Review1y ago - Stratton Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTaylor elementary has been in our lives for over 7 years starting with my oldest daughter. It has always been a good school to us we even took her out her second grade year during the pandemic and put her in another school to see if we could get her more advanced and that school ended up holding her back so she had to repeat the third grade there. We started attending back in her fourth grade year and now she's in 5th grade and she's advanced on so many levels that the school is putting her in other classes to teach her more. I appreciate the patience and the guidance that Taylor elementary and the principal Kimberly Gilbert and staff put towards my children day and night. Now my youngest has attended preschool and kindergarten there and if it were up to us we would stay there. It's a good community where they are focused on teaching your children life goals through all types of education whether it be physical mental or emotional. I would definitely recommend this school especially if you're looking for a community that will put forth effort into your children communicate with you about what's going on and have joy at heart while doing it. Thank you so much Taylor we love you.Parent Review2mo ago - Divine Redeemer Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFirst, I never give anything 5 stars, because I feel like that's unrealistic and everyone's different. My kids love Corpus Christi. They come home weekly with a manner of the week, and practice it in our house. My child has trouble reading, and the Interventionist is AMAZING. The kids go to Mass daily, the curriculum that is taught aligns with my values as a practicing Catholic (and is challenging!), and I know my kids are safe in the hands of teachers who genuinely love them. The principal communicates weekly through an e-blast and Friday folders that go home with each family. Anytime I've called the school she's been really responsive. The only time she didn't get right back to me was because she was home sick (so, understandable!) Parents are invited to have conferences whenever they feel their child is struggling, and I have never felt that a concern I've had (i.e. kids not getting along at lunch, as will happen sometimes) was ignored. In fact, the teachers and staff have never taken longer than a day to get back to me at all! The teachers are patient, but have high standards for the work the kids do. They really care how my kids are doing academically and (more importantly for me) spiritually. They (my kids) sing songs and recite poems from class all the time in the car and have REQUESTED to pray the rosary on their own. I've never had a question to a teacher or the office go unanswered, and teachers generally get back to you within 24 hours. If they haven't, it was due to a snow day or a long weekend, or something like that. I was especially impressed with my kids teachers during COVID. When my kids missed all that time when we had COVID, the teachers really went above and beyond making sure my kids had their make-up work and I knew how to catch them up at home before they returned. Another reviewer mentioned the gala. I also did not receive a receipt in a timely manner, but I think there was a staff change, so all I had to do was ask I got a reply and a receipt really quickly after that (within 48 hours). The school has a variety of sports programs, chess club, etc. I've been at the school for about 5 years and have absolutely nothing but good things to say. Highly recommend.Parent Review2y ago - Immanuel Lutheran School
