AXL Academy

Not much diversity in terms of staffing population and front desk definitely shows preference and bias towards subs , culturally, ethnically etc and are not particularly welcoming. I clicked yes I would recommend the school because it is not a bad school per se but it would not be my first choice to recommend either. They can do a lot better.

My son attended Iowa K-5th grade in 2001, and it was a great school. My grandson enrolled in 2021 to 2025. And this school has gotten so bad. It took them 6 months to complete and IEP evaluation. When I kept bothering them weekly for it, I was told it was just not done by the person in charge of IEPs. Therefore, my it was survival mode in class for my 3rd grader, and he continued to give up on his education it was a daily fight to keep him motivated and focused on class and at home with homework. Then I went to field day, and it was nothing but kids hitting, screaming at each other there was all of the centers were not team building monitored or educational. One thing I will point out is we had a very caring teacher who tried to do his best but was a 1st year teacher and did not know the IEP process. Our teacher had a hard time teaching the class as there were so many behavior issues and non English speaking students. After finally getting the IEP process completed, we found out there was no need for an IEP but we did need a 504 plan for him. This was a very hectic miserable year for us, and we will not return to Iowa ever again as there is no support from the principle or other staff and my child was in survival mode.

The new principal clearly hates the teachers by providing them the most pathetic teacher appreciation week ever. Why bother when the effort expresses how little she really cares about the people doing all the work with our kids. A beverage, yoga before work, or creating a pennant. No wonder teachers in the school are so unhappy. The principal last year got food truck lunch and a fancy pancake breakfast for the teachers. The teachers deserve better than the sad week they are getting. The school deserves better.

I am extremely disappointed with the way this school has treated my daughter, who has autism. Instead of providing the support and inclusion she deserves, she has been repeatedly isolated and neglected. There have been instances where she was placed in a corner rather than being engaged in learning with her peers, which is unacceptable. What is even more concerning is the ongoing pressure from the special education team to move her to a special education school, despite the fact that she has successfully been part of a general education setting for the past three years. Rather than working to support her needs within the classroom, it feels like they are trying to push her out.My daughter deserves respect, inclusion, and proper support—not to be made to feel different or less than. The lack of effort, compassion, and appropriate accommodations from staff has been deeply troubling. No child should feel bullied or excluded in a place that is supposed to nurture their growth and education.I hope the administration takes these concerns seriously and makes meaningful changes to ensure all students, especially those with disabilities, are treated with dignity and given the support they need to succeed.
