Abbott is not only a Gold Ribbon school but also is a Turnaround Arts member. Its commitment to the Arts goes above and beyond thanks to the great teachers and dedicated office staff.

My eldest daughter attended Lugo grades 1 through 5 and in that time, the school had three principals. Instruction was always geared towards the CST. There were no aspects of a "well-rounded" education. In her 5th grade year, she did not learn about U.S. history, science, or other topics of study. Classroom instruction and homework was always centered on questions covered in the CST. I was teaching my daughter topics she should have been learning in school because this Title I school is so under performing. Leadership is non-existant, teachers are content to just follow the agenda from the principal, and kids are not challenged. I eventually pulled her out of Lynwood Unified and enrolled her into West Middle School in the Downey Unified School District. The difference was night and day. A varied curriculum, involved teachers, and constant communication from school staff & administrators. She is now a 7th grader and taking Algebra 1, on the West TV production staff, and was the top 6th grade science student. Any parent thinking about enrolling their child in this or any Lynwood Unified school would be committing an act of child cruelty. Sincerely, Wayne B. Bergeron, Sr.

This is my 4yr, and we started off a bit rocky w/ the leadership, but our current principal, I'm extremely excited about what's to come.

Bullying is bad at this school the staff does nothing to protect the children or offer support. The school bathroom had racial slurs graffiti in the bathroom. The school base its education on test scores and less on classroom curriculum. I don't suggest this school to anyone if they want their children to blossom or feel safe.

The PUSD Virtual Academy is ran through this school. My daughter was not included in the June 2, 23 8th grade virtual academy awards due to retaliation and discrimination from the ELA teacher at the virtual academy awards. She held hate againt my daughter just because I spoke that she didn't handle emails and call request for a parent conference, basically ignored everyhing, plus this virtual academy didn't provide a science teacher for most of the school year and was still asking for students to take the CAT test. I declined for my daughter to test on a subject she did not receive classes for. The ELA teacher, who only had 7 ELA students in her class, had no right to exclude my daughter from receiving her academic awards on June 2nd, but for hate, retaliation and discrimination, she purposely didn't print my daughters awards for the A's she received in Science, Social Studies and Math. Unfortunately, the director of this school Robin Padget saw no wrong doing and actually protected this bad teacher, saying she did nothing wrong. Shame on her for supporting this evil act on her behalf. Even more shame on the ELA teacher, for even calling herself a teacher. Retaliation belongs on the minds of a gang member, and unfortunately this teacher brings this mentality to this school. Very sickening individuals.

This is my children’s third year attending Roosevelt, in my experience their Sped Teachers are much more compassionate and supportive with their students than the Gen Ed teachers. (I have children in both areas). I don’t feel that social emotional support for students is provided at this school site. I’ve expressed my concern to teachers and admin through all platforms via email in person and on paper but was still ignored until I gave district a call. I feel teachers and staff are quick to respond with disciplinary action but don’t want to seek solutions in how to better improve distressed students that may be suffering from anxiety or depression or mental disabilities.

I am very happy with my experience my children have had. PUSD does a good job when it comes to their curriculum and motivating kids to do their best. Ms. Hennessy, Mr. Maldonado, Ms. Harsh (now Ms. Mora), Ms Garrett, and all the staff thank you for all you do.
