SRHS is a very diverse school, which has both advantages and disadvantages. Unlike other high schools in Marin which consist of mostly white middle to upper middle class families who donate large sums of money to the schools, SRHS is lacking financial support from many of its socioeconomically disadvantaged families who make up a large portion of the SRHS community. As a result, SRHS does not have some of the fancy bells and whistles of neighboring public high schools. However, if your student is able to accept kids from different backgrounds, wants to take advantage of courses that will challenge him/her, thrives in an environment where there is a place for everyone and not one dominant popular social group and wants to be part of a sports team even though he/she may not be the best at that sport, then SRHS is worth considering. It is not by any means a perfect high school, but don't rule it out because of what you may think of it from an outside view.

San Rafael High is a hidden gem of Marin County. The English and Math departments are excellent. My two kids both come home with a very rigorous homework load each day. That being said, there is still room for improvement. Students have expressed disappointment in the visual arts/painting program. It lacking in structure and not challenging the students. According to my son, many kids are bored and frustrated in class, and are not being taught well. While SR is top notch in many areas, it is time they build on their visual arts department.

I love the surroundings, the teachers, and staff as a whole. They give the children so much enlightenment and I am forever grateful. Check out the wonderful staff over there and you will see exactly what I am talking about. Glenn Dennis, is in his 2nd year as principal and already he has positively impacted the school in such a tremendous way. The parents and children alike appreciate the attentiveness the school staff shows. My child comes home every day telling me something he did and enjoyed at school. San Rafael High is a great environment!

I believe that San Rafael High School is a great school. My daughter is in her Junior year and I ve come to develop a wonderful relationship with the faculty. They ve really taken a personal interest in her, and seemingly each child. The new principal is working hard and doing a great job in areas that could use improvement. The faculty are highly qualified. In my experience they ve gone above and beyond to see that each student is successful and receives the individual attention he or she needs.

My freshman daughter and I are just back from San Rafael High's back to school night and I would like to share my first impressions: Physical facilities are well maintained, the grounds are clean and my daughter feels safe and secure at the school. Nice architecture too and a good location next to Whole Foods, Montecito Shopping Center, CVS, Peet's Coffee so the campus has a kinda Berkeley feel. About half the school is Hispanic, so "everything" is bilingual which makes it wonderfully easy to learn Spanish. Spanish teacher is a dynamo, Algebra II teacher is a Cal Poly SLO mathematics major, English reading list includes "To Kill a Mocking Bird" and "Slaughterhouse Five" and as these are two of my favorites books, I'm very impressed with the English teacher. Biology teacher is an actively involved in local environmental volunteer. Daughter is running the mile in 8 minutes 20 seconds, so hats off to the PE coach too. Principal mentioned that the school was "crazy fund". Summary, academically rigorous, diverse student population, accepting (no bullying apparent), warm and welcoming school. Character building football team though, please know I respect you for your efforts.
