Read what parents are saying about Burckhalter Elementary SchoolWe moved to Oakland 3 years ago and this is the 3rd my daughter has been placed at due to bullying at the last 2 schools she was at. I did a little research and was told this school might be a better fit for my daughter and it was. Her teacher is great and her principal is excellent. They have a zero and I mean a zero tolerance for bullying. My daughter had one issue and it was nipped in the bud quickly by staff, including the principal. She’s very hands on and knows what’s going on at all times. My daughter is very happy to go to school every day and comes home happy. She has friends and she’s actually learning, unlike at the other OUSD schools I placed her in. I’m very pleased with this school.
Posted by a parent on 10/5/2018I am a teacher at this gem of a school nestled atop Edwards Avenue. I love my job, I love my Principal and I love our children! This is a small school where we know the names of all our children. They are loved and valued and given the academic rigor they are entitled to. We work hard , have a great academic program and our After-School Program from Ujima Foundation is the icing on the cake. We are developing a strong writing program at our school. Science, technology and mathematics are highly valued and taught with rigor, and we focus on developing strong leadership skills and confidence in our children. Drop by, come in and look around.

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son went here for kindergarten and loved it even though most of it was online. Later he was able to do twice a week for a few hours and I got to meet more staff. The teachers were amazing as well as all the staff that worked here while my son attended. My son learned so much here which was a surprise with a lot of it being remote. I really appreciate the time and care the teachers and staff put into the students. It was really nice that even the principal met with the kindergartners and talked to them once a week with another teacher doing an activity with the kids over Zoom. I thought that was really nice for the principal to do that with his busy schedule so I can just imagine I know he do that for all classes. The facility is clean, well kept, and looked like they were expanding. I changed my son’s school to something closer to our house but I do miss him going to this school. We ended up at this school bc I was way past the registration deadline and this was 1 of 2 schools left with availability so I chose this since it was just down the street from his daycare in case she needed to take him or pick him up. We live in fruitvale but if we were to ever move to this area I would definitely re-enroll him again here. I’m really glad I didn’t judge this school off the low scores I saw online which I did my own research on, on how a lot of those scores are biased bc it’s based off the neighborhood and demographics.Parent Review2y ago - Parker Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son and I have both unsuccessfully tried to contact this school for weeks to discuss our family members' (both students) school-related matter. Our email messages were not replied to. We called several times, but their recorded greeting announces that the voice maibox is full, and we could not leave a message. When we pressed "0" to speak with an operator, the phone just rang nonstop, and no one ever answered our calls. I'd advise everyone against enrolling in this school. Terrible communication!Parent Review2y ago - Aspire Triumph Technology Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThey don't bother teaching math. Instead they focus on social and emotional well-being. The kids are happy. Until they fail just like the institution this school is named for.Parent Review2mo ago - Candell's College Preparatory School
