Mather Heights Elementary School

Great school! My child came to the school after a traumatic experience at another school, and the environment quickly healed him and he has back to loving school again. My child's teacher attends student basketball games and other extra curricular activities, creates strong lesson plans to serve a rather diverse group of children, including those who have special needs and come from diverse backgrounds. The communication between school and home has been great, and we have been able to get all of our needs met. Don't let the poor test scores fool you. The curriculum at this school does not include much technology- for example, in learning about Ancient Civilizations, students put on a play, participate in pentathlon games, produce artwork, writing papers, doing presentations, etc. not staring at a computer screen. They learn to use dictionaries, not Google. The state tests are all taken on computers- a modality the students aren't familiar with, so the results are biased against them. The learning is there, it just may not be measurable by a computerized multiple-choice test. They learn the "how" and the "why", not just the "what".

Terrible. Teachers are mean. Students are terrible. And the staff? They dont care.

I am extremely disappointed with my child's experience at this school. Unfortunately, the administration especially the principal, Mr. Hawk has failed to provide a safe and supportive environment for students. After many years in his position, it is clear that he is not up to date with modern anti-bullying practices and does not take these issues seriously.My child was repeatedly subjected to bullying, including being called offensive names and experiencing clear discrimination. Despite bringing these concerns forward, the situation was minimized rather than properly addressed. There was a clear lack of incident reporting and accountability, and no meaningful effort was made to protect my child. In fact, the school refused to move the student responsible for the bullying out of her class, forcing me to make the difficult decision to transfer my child to a private school.Additionally, my child's photo was excluded from the yearbook, which only added to the feeling of exclusion and discrimination. The school environment overall feels overcrowded, and the quality of education does not feel advanced or enriching. There are very few after-school activities, and mental health services are not proactive or supportive when students need them most.To be honest, these issues reflect broader problems within the school district as a whole. There appears to be a lack of oversight, accountability, and commitment to student safety and well-being at the district level as well.This school has serious issues with how bullying is handled across the board, and leadership does not seem willing to acknowledge or address these problems. I cannot recommend this school to any parent who values their child's safety, well-being, and educational growth.

I was told my child said something really nasty to another kid I mean supper nasty come to find out it wasn’t true mean while it was never contacted by the principal which I should have been just based on the words that was used so I went to address it my self because I would be very upset if tables was turnt while speaking to her ( principal) her response was they are 5/6 they say things I could of died were I say I let her know if I was the other kid mother I would be up here with Chanel 2 news sad story the don’t give a dang about your kids at all they allowed my daughter to fall behind she has a learning disability and never once attempted to meet me half way to with any type of solution to help my child this is a sorry school if you want your child to become anything in life if you want a great baby sitter then there perfect for that

They keep removing any negative reviews, and having their staff write new fake positive ones. This place is terrible. My daughter was kicked out for not turning in her assignments on time, even though she had an emergency. I tried to keep my cool and contacted the principal....and wow that is the worst principal ever. She is condescending and not impartial whatsoever. She kept saying "well you should have dropped it off" very rudely, while I tried to explain to her that I was unable to due to an emergency! Please do not bring your kid here, one mistake and it will ruin them.

Navigator Elementary School is a wonderful school with a positive and welcoming atmosphere. The principal is caring, professional, and truly dedicated to the students' success. The administrative staff is very friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist parents with a smile. School has before and after school program what is great for working parents.
