Read what parents are saying about Cowan Avenue Elementary SchoolI had two children that went to this school so let me just say please do not let the high test scores fool you! This school is a mess. After COVID teachers were scarce. Classrooms were bonded together with substitutes then they would just up and leave but let’s start with supervision. This school does not only have no support staff to make sure children are safe the kids walk in and out and do whatever they want. There was group vapping in the bathroom. No announcement or anti-drug actions sent home or given to the kids. Children “missing” for an hour on campus. Fighting in the bathrooms and being inappropriate. Teachers with no classroom management so then all the kids are now acting out. The principal might as well be a ghost because your not gonna see him. Social-emotional… nothing special done on the 1st day of school. Nothing special for graduating kids unless parents do it. No anti drug rallies or anti bullying group discussions. The 5th and 6th graders bully the kinders. A mess. All info comes last minute. If your child is going to win an award they do not even tell you. You miss core memories with your child. Main office nobody knows anything except how to mark your kid tardy. School is dirty. Trash all over the place. Lunch time is MESS! And it’s just lunch but so unorganized! Especially for kindergarten. Parent involvement is hard to get because there is no investment made from the school. Parents are not encouraged to help, they are asked to help last minute and then if an event is cancelled they will not even tell you! After buying a ton of uniforms you see it’s not enforced AT ALL! The magnet testing person is rude and discouraged the children publicly. When there is a struggling class they do not know how to manage it and help the children. Staff does not care. Good things- more programs then most schools in the area. Music, chorus, great art teacher, etc. FLI is a great program with good teachers. All the arts are nice and a few teachers care but most are subs or new to teaching. The school is large and has a lot of wasted land. No garden etc.

Posted by a parent on 3/28/2023Being at Cowan the past 6 years has been a wonderful experience. My daughter has developed into a intelligent, assertive, academically focused young lady. Excellent teachers, excellent school leadership and staff and faculty that genuinely love on our students.
Posted by a parent on 3/17/20205 out of 5 stars. Not because it is perfect, but because they are a progressive school moving forward. They care about the students academically and socially and that is important to me.
Posted by a parent on 3/23/2019I've been a Cowan parent for three years. Of course it could have more bells and whistles, but it's a public school and they do a lot with what they are given.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have two children who attend this school and we have had an excellent experience. All teachers we have encountered have been caring and at the top of their teaching game. In our experience, the principal has always been fair and approachable. He looks out for the best interest of all students, families and faculty. We love this school and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone!Parent Review1y ago - Westside Neighborhood School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been part of the WNS community for 5 years and cannot rave enough about how great of a fit the school has been for our family. We have a 7th grader at WNS and an 11th grader who attended WNS from 6th-8th grade. We live in Venice and started at our local elementary school and searched for a middle school that had our values - commitment to diversity, academic excellence, growth mindset, kindness, energetic and dedicated teachers and administration, strong sports program, and more. WNS prepared our 11th grade daughter to excel academically in high school while also being committed to her various non-academic passions (volleyball and theater). Our 7th grade son, currently at WNS, is thriving in his classes, having grown in his confidence in the classroom with kind and nurturing teachers. He is also able to feel like a part of the WNS community by participating in the athletic program (flag football and soccer). Choose WNS - your expectations will be exceeded! N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son attended Pacifica for TK, and we only left because he joined a dual language program. Our little one's experience was just what I had hoped for and more. He was already reading well for his age, but what I noticed was his improved social skills, how he applied his reading, and his well-rounded approach to math, life skills, sports, and different challenges outside of school. When he entered Kindergarten, I saw how sociable and confident he had become which is a testament to this Montessori program. He often says, "I learned this at Pacifica" or "I know I'll be fine because of what I did at Pacifica." He talks about it daily and calls it "His Montessori school"Mr. and Mrs. Call create a wonderful, safe, nurturing, and emotionally intelligent environment for the kids. The way they handle potential family issues and privacy is truly remarkable, with a focus on the children. The staff is warm, attentive, calm, and well-trained. My son misses the teachers and Mr. and Mrs. Call. He still has play dates with this class mates. These relationships will be in his heart forever.People often ask where my son began his education because of how well he relates to other kids. I believe it's a testament to this school. My son even said, "Can I go back to Pacifica and also be at my new school?" Ha, I wish that was possible, but we hope to return maybe during a summer break. The drop-off and pick-up are easy, the drive is shaded, which matters on hot days, and the school is in an enclosed, gated complex that's sheltered and safe.Thank you for Pacifica.Parent Review5mo ago
