Read what parents are saying about Warren E. Hyde Middle SchoolAs a concerned parent, I must warn others about the troubling experience at Hyde Middle School in the Cupertino Union School District. This school, expected to be a beacon of quality education, was a major disappointment. The environment under Principal Ethel Anumba was hostile, affecting students, parents, and likely the faculty. Her negative impact was profound, despite her short tenure. Academically, the school has declined, with a shift from core subjects to oversimplified "social-emotional learning" and a concerning reduction in advanced math classes, jeopardizing college preparatory paths.Teaching quality is inconsistent. Specific teachers, such as Madhavi Gudivaka and Usha Kolachalam, have been sources of distress due to ineffective teaching methods and inappropriate disciplinary actions. Moreover, attempts to address these issues were met with retaliation from the school, creating a stifling atmosphere for concerned parents. Given these experiences, I strongly recommend parents to seek alternative educational environments that truly foster learning and growth.
Posted by a community member on 12/29/2023I had high hopes for Hyde Middle School when my child started attending, but unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing. Bullying is a serious problem at this school, and it seems to be ignored by the principal. Student violence is also a major issue, and offending students are not even suspended. The police presence on campus has become so frequent that it has become routine.Furthermore, I have noticed that high test scores at Hyde Middle School are only achieved by the parents who pay for their children's extracurricular education. This is further confirmed by the significant performance gap between minority and special needs students. While there are a few exceptional teachers, the majority of teachers at this school seem unengaged, and the administrative staff can be outright rude and abusive towards parents visiting campus. The food quality at Hyde Middle School is subpar, and the variety of meal choices is extremely poor. Most of the options are unhealthy, such as cheese pizzas and cheese sticks. Although this is not the school's fault, as the food service is provided by the district, the school's food distribution is so poor that kids routinely do not have time to eat.The school's facilities are hopelessly outdated and run-down, especially the gym and outdoor sports equipment. Unfortunately, the district is not investing in any renovations, as the school is slated to be closed due to declining enrollment in the Cupertino Union School District.Overall, I cannot recommend Hyde Middle School. The issues with bullying, student violence, and poor academic performance are concerning, and the lack of investment in the school's facilities only adds to the problem. It's a shame, as I had hoped for a better experience for my child at this school.
Posted by a parent on 3/8/2023A perfect school, where your kids learn to be more independent. A very rare behavioral trait that your kids can learn in this school outside their very protective environment at home. This school provides lots of opportunities for your kids to excel and encourages kids to challenge themselves all the time. They are very informative, and keep the parents updated with their kids' progress very regularly. Meetings and feedbacks are acted upon unlike some other schools, where that just remains part of the student records. Very impressed and extremely satisfied.

Posted by a parent on 4/12/2019It’s been a total let down. I went to this school myself long ago. It was a good school then. I moved to this neighborhood so my sons could go here. What a disappointment. They told me at the beginning that my sons would be placed with other students who spoke the same language. They told me there would be counseling. They told me there was a whole team who would get together and check on their progress every 6 weeks. All lies I tell you. There were no Korean speaking students paired with my sons. They said the counselors have no access to Korean language so that service was not available. No progress meeting were held and when I asked for my son to be held back so he can learn more before heading into high school, they said no. I felt like they were basically pushing the problem out of their hands. Teachers seemed to care, but my sons development was limited by the lack of resources and leadership.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy 5-year daughter has flourished in the past year at Villa Montessori School. At the moment of graduation, I would like to share my favorite points of Villa Montessori with future students and families.1.I love to see my daughter acquire practical life skills at the beginning, then explore academic realms with an individualized and flexible curriculum.2.All the teachers and office staff are professional, attentive, and kind. Mrs.Rajeshwaran, Mrs.Fan, Mrs.Lin, Mrs. DeSilva, and Mrs.Dhruva, thank you so much!3.My daughter is very active, sometimes too much. But she acquired self-control skills thanks to the child-centered, logical, and caring guidance of the teachers.4.I could see what was happening in the classroom by the weekly emails on the curriculum from Mrs.Lin, and the children's pictures uploaded biweekly. Villa also provides several workshops for parents on positive parenting, the importance of music for children, etc. 5.West Valley Elementary School allows Villa Montessori to share their Kindergarten yard, regular yard, library, etc. Children enjoy the wide open space outside of their classrooms.I'm grateful for the professional and warm support from Villa Montessori to my family. I am confident that your child will grow to be an accomplished and kind individual at Villa Montessori.Parent Review10mo ago
