Posted by a parent on 3/5/2018This school is a gem. My 3 children have gone through kinder-3rd grade and only encountered stellar teachers that truly love and care about their students getting the best. This year they brought in a STEM program and all the grades are having fun with science experiments. As a working scientist I still find time to volunteer and have been pleased with what I see in the classrooms as I volunteer each week. The issues we have brought to the principle and staff have been resolved and they have strived to make this environment a place where kids thrive. Class sizes are low and my kids feel like everyone cares about them with the many friendly smiles and listening ears.
Posted by a parent on 10/1/2015This is a horrible school. The teachers I have not had a problem with but principle and desk staff are rude. My son was assaulted and because witnessed said he was annoying the kid the child that punched my son and left him bloody noses with clots coming out had no action taken. The principle also did nothing to prevent anything further happen the boy walked home with my son off the bus the very next day! I'm appalled at this and it's no wonder why our children are hurting eachother. Adults are justifying it

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school isn't what everyone around here makes it out to be. It hasn't been great since Dr. Irving left. Academically, it was ok. Some teachers are really good and attentive. Some will tell you your child has a learning disability because they have trouble grasping a certain subject. Bullying is not taken seriously at this school, not with the previous principal or the current, despite the administration telling you that they do everything in their power to ensure students feel safe. Both the principal and assistant principal will call your child and any complaints "petty." They just do everything they need to do to cover their own behinds in case you go to the district or sue. Yard aides are mean. Some teachers are nice, but most are biased towards and show favoritism to students whose parents they are friends with. Some teachers also gossip about students to other parents, which I find unethical, unprofessional and an invasion of student privacy. The moms who ran the parent club while my children were there were all catty, gossipy and pretentious. Parents also have a huge sense of entitlement. They don't follow parking lot/drop off rules because that's what Seven Oaks people do, apparently. The current principal will also not fight for your students or even push up against the district. Not even a little. You're better off homeschooling your kids or heading over to Highgate where I hear the principal is more assertive.Parent Review1y ago - Independence Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur family has had many wonderful years at this school starting from kindergarten. Throughout the school years they have had many functions for the parents to interact with their children at the school. Everyone knows one another and it just feels like a big family. This is my sons last year as he is now a 6th grader. I am so sad he will be leaving. Everyone at centennial has contributed to his upbringing . I am grateful for that ! I’m a true believer that takes a village to raise a child. Centennial elementary is a great village to be a part of. The front desk ladies, teachers, principal, crossing guards, (everyone employed there) is amazing. I really don’t have enough words to describe what a positive experience we have had. I will miss everyone and I’m grateful for you all.Parent Review5y ago - American Elementary School
