5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principal barely communicates or interacts with the parents. Modes of receiving communication has been nothing but challenges and you have to persist or ask the most involved parents or Facebook group just to get a simple answer. They tout this wonderful new TAF program that has done really nothing to help diversity, inclusion or parent involvement. My son who has a high IQ but a learning disability doesn't fit in and is bullied and hurt physically. To get special education services for him, I've had to threaten to get the courts involved because they don't even respond to my multiple requests. They are just shuffling kids in and out and hoping that no one raises a stink about these poor conditions - even the most hardcore PTA parent friend of mine gave up and changed schools. I have had mixed experiences with teachers - the nurse and some teachers are great in trying to help my son (with education and bullying), but some staff should not even be there because they are dismissive and lack basic manners. The school facilities are worn out and parking/traffic is horrible being next to main streets and the Franz bread company. If they had more organization, these low-income issues wouldn't be a problem but leadership is severely lacking. We're just trying to get through and finish with this school so we can move to a better place for high school. Would not recommend this school unless you have no other options and your child isn't special needs and can fight back with bullies or fly under the radar. I used to think these low income schools need help with funding but now I'm realizing why they shouldn't be funded unless a really stellar principal can come in and make changes.I have another child in a West Seattle elementary school who got in by lottery and I am sacrificing the commute to keep him there because the difference between that school and these south end school is night and day. I've even pulled my daughter out of a different south end school due to the same type of conditions.Parent Review2y ago - Check out schools near 300 10th Avenue UNIT B102.

What Locals Say about First Hill

- Resident

"Not a lot of green space to walk your pup. It’s near one park that typically isn’t clean and has quite a few homeless people. I wouldn’t walk my dog there. "
- Trulia User

"Area is busy and street traffic may be dangerous on busier streets. Homeless population may be an issue near the freeway "
- Trulia User
- Resident
- 1y ago
"There a lot of bars, restaurants and shops. Something for everyone. It’s changed a lot over the years and gotten a lot cleaner but that’s to be expected. There are still some really great places. "
- Trulia User

"Busy area nowhere to really park. Lots of public transportation to get around the area. Not sure about the crime I stay to myself. "
- Trulia User

"Not a good place for kids to thrive. Is extremely expensive to live. If you have a car, you will get ticketed parking in your own neighborhood. Even if you have a permit it doesn't matter, the city sells more permits than there a spaced to park and you end up getting ticketed and towed. There is construction going on all the time and the streets are tore up."
- Trulia User

"Not friendly or a place where you will be happy. Meeting people is unrealistic here. Most people keep to themselves and then there's the rain and clouds. Very depressing."
- Trulia User

"Streets are never empty. There is always someone out. No matter the day or night. The south side has a lot of hospitals and north Capitol Hill is more residential "
- Trulia User

"public transportation is above and beyond expectations. traffic can be a lot sometimes and overwhelming "
- Trulia User

"Lots of bars and places to eat. Great place for students or people who like noise and have fun. In Capitol Hill not as many as in Downtown homeless people but still plenty. Near main roads very noisy."

"This is a beautiful neighborhood. I love the vibe! It's pet friendly, people friendly and all stores are close by!"

"Not sure. Been here one week and it is temporary housing. Seems like a diverse and nice neighborhood "
- Sarah Smith

"There are not many kids in the neighborhood and the public school is very poorly rated. Not a lot of great parks for young children. "
- Emilie S.

"I like it when the RedHawks have games. We don’t keep up with any of the schedules, but during this season, as we walk our dog, we always see practices or something going on, and always stop to watch games."
- Spencer o.

"This area is good for people who prefer walking to work. The restaurants are okay, but Capitol Hill has more amenities. "

"I have no opinion. I do not have a dog, but there are several nearby dog friendly parks. Owners can easily walk their dogs, and many apartments are dog friendly here."
- Charmaine M. D. T.

"it's the people that make it special not the events. people here come together when someone needs help and people actually greet you in the sidewalk when you walk by."
- Rexfordb

"I've lived in this neighborhood for 5 years and been fortunate to watch it grow in that time. Lovingly (or not so) referred to as Pill Hill for years because of the hospitals, First Hill has begun to reinvent itself as an actual place to live. Walking distance from Downtown, Capitol Hill, Central District, the International District, and one bus away from the whole world. There's the streetcar on Broadway. Walking distance to the Hideout, Quarter Lounge, Vitos, Sugar Bakery, a 24 hour gym, Stockbox Grocers, Frye Art Museum, Lotus Vietnamese, 206 Burger Co, Georges Deli, and Italian Family Pizza. The First Hill Improvement Association has really helped this place form it's own identity, and it's wonderful."

"Very safe area as there is good security patrol from local hospitals all night long. You can literally walk your dog at 3:00am and feel safe."

"I work in the area. I love being so close to Seattle University. Lots of new buildings purchased by Seattle University that is adding lots of value to the area. Young and frendly. Pet friendly everywhere. Close to the finest restaurants like Spinasse $$$, Lark $$$, La Spiga, Gyms, Yoga, five minutes on a taxi cab to Downtown Seattle, or 20 minute walk. Very safe. lots of young families and kids. Parks around the University let you mingle with students. Little traffic, clean and easy public transportation!!!!!"
