6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMany of the teachers in this school district are absolutely wonderful and changed my life for the better. Overall, though, it's a hard place to get a good education, especially if your child is in any way different from the norm. The school offers relatively few AP courses, actively discourages students from applying to out-of-state colleges, and keeps changing the science curriculum as fundamentalist parents fight the school board about whether the textbooks can mention evolution. Administrators are very quick to hand out harsh punishments for minor rule-breaking, and the school's basic approach to students with behavioral/emotional disabilities is "act normal or get out." That said, it is a safe environment with a lot of good extracurricular opportunities.Other Review5y ago - Surprise Lake Middle School

"Milton is a place that millions of people have driven past on their way to or from Seattle. What they can't see at 60 mph is a place that is warm, friendly and close to everything. It is a great place to raise kids, and a great place to feel like your family includes your neighbors and the people you see at the library or the park. "

"Welcome to the lovely town of Milton - the Southend's best kept secret! From this location you are only 15 minutes to Tacoma and 20-25 to Seattle. When you buy this home you will be within 5 minutes of 3 major freeways (I-5, Hwy 18 and 167) within 3 miles of Costco, major restaurants, shopping, amenities all with a small town experience! With a population of just around 7,000 people, you won't feel swallowed up in a large city environment. Located right on the cusp of South King and North Pierce counties, Milton offers friendly people, terrific schools, affordable property taxes and great neighborhoods."
