Description
This property is no longer available to rent or to buy. This description is from March 01, 2022
Crisp and clean, this shipshape property has stunning curb appeal. The spacious 5-bedroom, 3-bath home is ready for you to move right in. Pretty as a picture, the home is resplendent with numerous upgrades and manicured landscaping front and back, and it sits peacefully on the corner of two quiet cul-de-sacs in the Kirkside neighborhood in Alexandria. The living room welcomes you with large windows looking out front and a brick wood-burning fireplace. A stately chair rail encircles the large dining room that’s able to fit everyone around the table. Dentil crown molding runs throughout this main level, adding a sophisticated elegance. The recently updated eat-in kitchen boasts quartz counters, a new sink and faucet, ceramic tile flooring, and new stainless appliances including a double oven and cooktop. The kitchen also includes a back staircase down to the large family room -- a special attribute that’s a unique treat in this area. There are two sets of double-door hall closets just off the kitchen, and convenient access to the patio and gorgeous backyard. Three bedrooms are located down the hall, including the enormous primary bedroom, and they all have generous closet space. One bedroom has a wall of handy built-in shelving that would easily serve as an office, hobby room, or working studio. The primary bathroom and the hallway bathroom have both been recently updated with marble-topped vanities, expert tiling and convenient shower niches. On the lower level, there’s a large comfortable family room with a second wood-burning fireplace. Painted paneling, wainscoting and wooden shutters give this room a charming cottage vibe. There’s also access to the oversized two-car garage down here, that has an attractive, front-facing carriage-style exterior door. Two more bedrooms are on this level plus an updated full bath. There’s a big laundry room down here with room for a workbench as well as room for your workout equipment. Right off the laundry room is a charming, west-facing greenhouse that’s outfitted with a temperature-controlling fan, all ready for your green thumb to work its magic. From the family room, the back staircase leads right up to the kitchen, a brilliant convenience for entertaining, for busy families and children, for grabbing another snack during a commercial. The backyard is an oasis; a terraced, landscaped, stepped, and stupendous oasis. From the eco-friendly Zoysia grass to the various rock gardens and Liriope beds, the space has been designed with care, pride, talent, and hard work. The crown jewel of this home, literally, is the upper backyard that sits up on a bluff, overlooking the yard and house. About the size of a tennis court, this space will make you feel like you’re on top of the world. Add a badminton or croquet set for fun in the sun. Or simply grab your favorite lawn chair and your book and you’re all set. Close to schools, public transportation, and shopping, this home is near Sherwood Hall Public Library, which hosts a robust Farmers’ Market on Wednesdays in the spring, summer, and fall. The close-knit neighborhood has an active community in its swim and tennis club, with high engagement among its members. Old Town Alexandria and National Airport are a quick drive, as are all the amenities and perks of Washington, DC.

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI go to this school and it's a terrible place, all of the bathrooms are closed most of the time, it's dirty and we never go outside. The staff don't do anything to prevent fights and people, including me have been jumped. I would not recommend this place to anybody.Student Review2mo ago - West Potomac High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWest Potomac is really three unofficial/informal schools wrapped into one. SOME kids can move between the schools, but most kids stay where they are. In the "bottom school" the kids don't care and the parents don't care. Unfortunately this cohort lowers the overall school scores and dissuades many people from sending their kids here. This is the smallest part of the school (these three "informal schools" are NOT 1/3 each). In the "average (or middle) school" many kids care and want to learn, but something (ES/MS experience, ESL, home environment, disengaged or overly-busy parents, economic challenges, etc.) holds them back. Sometimes teachers, administrators, sports, and extracurriculars help kids "move up" and out of this school. In the "top school" most of the kids are going to go to college and many/most take AP courses. Parents are engaged. These three "schools" are NOT solely socio-economic, but there are some linkages. Sadly, many kids in the "top school" never even interact with the kids in the "bottom school". There IS luckily a lot of overlap between the average and top schools...overall West Potomac is a very solid school that prepared all three of our children to attend fairly elite, private, liberal arts colleges. If you want your kids to be coddled, send them elsewhere. If you want them to sort of deal with the real world, West Potomac is a good place to start...Parent Review3mo ago - Hollin Meadows Elementary School

"None that I know off. You have to go to Old Town which is 1-1/2 to 2 miles away for community events (and for a weekly Saturday Farmer’s Market asked about in earlier question)."

"Although there are nice parks where I live, most of the family friendly neighborhoods reside in an enclosed neighborhood called Cameron Station. There is a beautiful library and it's close to Van Dorn Metro. There is a lot of traffic and some have pockets that are unsafe. The area is not pedestrian friendly. Lots of dog parks. Not stroller friendly. Eisenhower seems to have the least amount of crime but it is a busy street during the day. LA Mart is a great source for Asian groceries. The area has almost everything you need in a short distance. Schools aren't rated the best."

"Lots of open grass areas within walking distance and all well lit and frequented by many locals makes it a safe and convenient neighborhood for dog owners. Most properties including townhomes in this area also include fenced-in backyards which provide relief during the day or while away; most townhome communities also have common grassy areas for homeowners to use."
