The Fry-Barry House is a raised Greek Revival Cottage built on the original Marshall townsite in the 1850's by Fidel Bircher and designed by W.R.D. Ward. Edwin James Fry, who would become an influential businessman and leader in Marshall, purchased the house and it remained in his family, expanding as needed, until the 2000's. The Avelar’s bought it in 2019 and restored it to its glory and updated the property in 2021 brand new roof March 2022. The home's main living area is upstairs, with a grand front porch leading to a beautiful foyer with original maple floors. A formal living and piano room with original marble fireplaces (rigged for gas logs), columns, and an early-1900's Wurlitzer upright piano (stays with house) lead through French doors to a formal dining room with updated lighting and a copper-rimmed fireplace. The dining room also features a breakfast nook/sunroom with year-round sunshine and wintertime views of the Wonderland of Lights.
A family room with built-in bookcases, an original fireplace rigged for gas, beautiful leaded stained-glass windows, and its own front porch connects the formal piano room and dining room. Off the dining room sits the kitchen, which was fully updated in 2021 and now features a plethora of storage, including two pantries, a massive granite island and granite surround countertops with subway tile backsplash, ash wood grain tile, and updated appliances.

We have found the diversity of classes offered to be amazing for the junior high level and unrivaled by any local junior highs. Beyond having three academic levels to choose from for core classes, there are a plethora of electives including choir, orchestra, band, dance, art, speech, theatre (classes in both performance and history of), athletics, and business classes. The new campus is beautiful and well laid out inside. The teachers are dedicated and have been extremely responsive. I am a 30-year-old woman with a child at the school and I’m not sure if principal thought I was a teenager, but was extremely rude. First day of school. My daughter was 1min late so I go to the office with her since it’s her first day of school And she doesn’t know anything about the school and neither do I . we just moved here from a different state and everything is different . Making your kids pledge to the flag is knew to us. And I don’t make my kids do it since I’ve read up on the history of it. you’re making the kids pledge something that they’re not even aware of what they are pledging for . She was rude to a random student who was late I feel so bad for the little kid the way that she yelled at him and she just went ahead and told me you know that if you’re late again, you have to pay a fine of so so much money and you’re gonna have to go to court and it’s a misdemeanor and so on. Did I get a hello good morning how are you today? No warm welcome to my child. Who is the new student here. I don’t know what her outcome of the conversation was . But it definitely wasn’t the way to approach it and I don’t like being threatened just because my daughter was late. The staff needs to do better, and I’m just curious as to who appointed the principal thank you to the assistant principal for making me feel a little bit OK for having my daughter attend the school. "There is a dog park. But dogs also get loose or run around without leashes frequently. There is a vet clinic in town and lots of pet grooming options in town and nearby."

"I have lived here for 8 years. It is quiet, and walking distance to school. Great area to walk, jog, ride bikes. Always kids playing outside. Leash law for dogs. Decently sized lots, homes aren’t too close to each other. We have a neighborhood Facebook group so we can easily contact neighbors about mail/package mishaps, loose dogs, block parties or any questions and concerns. Close to town and close to a small grocery store when you don’t want to run all the way in town. Walking distance to the country club golf course. "
