Description

This property is not currently for sale or for rent on Trulia. The description and property data below may have been provided by a third party, the homeowner or public records.
The Fry-Barry House is a raised Greek Revival Cottage built on the original Marshall townsite in the 1850's by Fidel Bircher and designed by W.R.D. Ward. Edwin James Fry, who would become an influential businessman and leader in Marshall, purchased the house and it remained in his family, expanding as needed, until the 2000's. The Avelar’s bought it in 2019 and restored it to its glory and updated the property in 2021 brand new roof March 2022. For more house history, go here: http://www.sfasu.edu/heritagecenter/images/Fry-Barry_House.pdf

The home's main living area is upstairs, with a grand front porch leading to a beautiful foyer with original maple floors. A formal living and piano room with original marble fireplaces (rigged for gas logs), columns, and an early-1900's Wurlitzer upright piano (stays with house) lead through French doors to a formal dining room with updated lighting and a copper-rimmed fireplace. The dining room also features a breakfast nook/sunroom with year-round sunshine and wintertime views of the Wonderland of Lights.

A family room with built-in bookcases, an original fireplace rigged for gas, beautiful leaded stained-glass windows, and its own front porch connects the formal piano room and dining room. Off the dining room sits the kitchen, which was fully updated in 2021 and now features a plethora of storage, including two pantries, a massive granite island and granite surround countertops with subway tile backsplash, ash wood grain tile, and updated appliances.

The street-side of the upstairs contains three bedrooms- the room currently being used as the master, with its own fireplace and bathroom with a hallway that can be opened or closed for guests, a walk-in closet and regular closet, its own entry into another bedroom/nursery, a Jack and Jill bath connecting to the third main floor large and beautiful bedroom. All bedrooms and living rooms feature hardwood floors, gorgeous high baseboards, original doors and windows, and breathtaking crown molding or full-ceiling molding. Bedrooms feature ceiling fans/light fixtures.

A stairwell hallway with large walk-in storage leads to the downstairs, which can be closed off for smaller scale living upstairs. Downstairs features a large mudroom, large guest room with spectacular wood and brick walls with unbelievable concealed storage, fireplace, and bathroom (has been used as a master in past), man-cave or recreational room, half-bath, and three storage rooms with original brick floors and walls, as well as extinct palm pine doors.

Additionally, an updated office with its own storage and front entryway porch/door has been used as a law office, florist, and antique shop in the past. The house has been used as a bed and breakfast previously and therefore has a fire alarm system to meet requirements, separate locks on bedroom doors, and separate central A/C and heat controls with mini-splits for bedrooms downstairs. The property is currently zoned general business, but its currently occupied as a residence by the Avelar Family.

The mudroom leads to a large, covered porch with a walkway to a pergola parking in a private driveway, raised bed planters, sidewalk access, and a mature persimmon tree. Brick patios connect the previous servant's quarters, now a storage shed, large vegetable garden, a spacious side yard separated by a pergola covered in Confederate Jasmine, boasting four mature peach trees, and two pomegranate trees. Post-hurricane Ivan roof and 2021 HVAC systems.

"I have lived here for 8 years. It is quiet, and walking distance to school. Great area to walk, jog, ride bikes. Always kids playing outside. Leash law for dogs. Decently sized lots, homes aren’t too close to each other. We have a neighborhood Facebook group so we can easily contact neighbors about mail/package mishaps, loose dogs, block parties or any questions and concerns. Close to town and close to a small grocery store when you don’t want to run all the way in town. Walking distance to the country club golf course. "
