4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageUNDER-QUALIFIED. I was a transfer student who came from a A+ honor roll school, Tomball Memorial High School. Lamar High School was such a big adjustment, but I looked past and saw the potential. Within the first week, my schedule was disorganized, and had to be corrected multiple times which led me to eventually give up on administration. Administration completely ignored me and my parents requests, and disregarded the transcripts and plans given. The learning environment also need improvements. Classes are taught as seminars which is completely fine minus the fact that multiple “classrooms” are combined into one shared room. It is distracting, extremely hard to learn, and difficult to digest information. With these shared rooms, there is about 100 students to one restroom. Student restroom facilities are limited to two stalls for girls and 1 stall, 1 urinal for boys which makes the wait in the restroom intolerable. There is normally herds of people trying to fit into the restrooms before or during class. There’s also a problem with students behaviors in which the administrative team do not take seriously. There has been multiple occurrences where punishment was not reasonable and students were let off easy; this led to continuous in school distractions. Overall not a recommended school of my choice.Other Review10mo ago - Macgregor El

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter had attended MacGregor since she was in kinder. Since those years I noticed many changes to the school like staff changes and the removal of a pto to allow parents to raise money and support the school and the students. I personally never had any issues with the teachers through the years but I heard from a few parents that they had a very different experiences. One time my daughter came home telling me that she saw her teacher cry when she wasn't helped with a student who was causing some behavior issue in the classroom. That concerning to me as a parent because the school should have our children safety first. This child apparently disrupting classroom materials and talking back to the teacher. Makes me think what the school staff or teacher did to handle that situation because I for sure dont want my child seeing this kind of behavior to be okay and acceptable when really children are their to safely learn and enjoy the school day. I also heard from someone that this shchool has inconsistent with teachers out every month and there are many new teachers which is disappointing because I wanted my child to be with a certain teacher that has taught there for many years only to hear that they no longer teach there. Like I said many new changes. so I made the change to switch my daughter to a different school last year in 2019 year and was a big difference. I hope there are better changes at the school because I originally was happy with MacGregor when my daughter first attended. 9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter did good until high school. One of her core subject teachers overloaded her classes with quizzes, tests, and assignments on Fridays when students didn't have much time. Students had to rush to complete packet work in other classes. Other teachers didn't take kindly to this and considered it off task instead of addressing the teacher. Holidays, and vacations were flooded with huge packets of work from a core teacher. The class day was paced with quality of work and not much teaching. My daughter would come home and learn it online from college videos. The hostile emotion in the class lead her to give up in that class. The negativity had an effect on other classes as we struggled to help her recover. My daughter was told she was lying about a diagnosis made by a doctor and an employee called her a liar because of something she thought she heard. She didn't verify and reduced my teenage daughter to tears. The same employee said my daughter was not smart enough to be at the school. Her mailed standardized results say at/above level. She got her first detention for uniform violation and was placed in an "old covid quarantine" room. There are covid notices of exposure that now have gone out. This school was great. I really did like the engineering teacher, the art teacher, "MrChoirMan", her middle school team was great, and her MS math teachers. Her MS math teach was firm, challenging and math was never communicated as a threat from her. While I am grateful to the majority of the teaching teams, the leadership, admin. And some teachers hinder progress, disingenuous, and do severe harm. Instead if looking back on great high school memories now have bigger problems to reconcile that were caused by employees that did not have our daughter's well being mind.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 3817 Fannin St #22.

"Most truly walkable neighborhood in Houston. excellent area for walking the dog with lots of trees, grass and dog parks nearby. if you're worried about car break-ins or people leaving the club at 2 am, look for a different area, but it doesn't bother me."

"Probably not the best for kids. I would suggest finding another area to live if you have kids. Unless you have the money to purchase a house with a large yard here."

"There are plenty of dog parks around here, Bagby Park, Glover Park, W. Webster, Midtown Park, etc. You won't have any problem walking the streets around here either as you see plenty of 🐕 owners everywhere. However, there are plenty of one-way streets and people don't always use caution. "

"The park a three blocks away has 300 year old oak trees, so beautiful. We have get together everyday where we let our dogs socialize and there are always community events at this park, art sells, food booths, party atmosphere on weekends, etc. I love being able to walk to the Toyota Center from my house! And, Discovery Green! We ride bikes to the events and outdoor concerts. Urban living at its finest!"

"The restaurants and the night life make this a fun and upbeat neighborhood. It feels safe to walk in the evenings and everything you need is nearby and convenient. I never feel bored or lacking entertainment and it’s centrally located near all the major freeways! Mostly young 20s and 30s live in this area, but you’ll find a few young families and older couples."
