8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child began at Mathews during the pandemic. The staff, teachers and administration have dealt with the challenges of this period with aplomb, grit, organization and warmth. I am in awe of them. I am so grateful to Principal Martino-Brewster for her calm, positivity and wisdom. My child has had a loving and trusting relationship with their specials teachers as well as their primary teachers. Like so many schools in the USA, Mathews struggles to equitably serve its disadvantaged students. Mathews parents generally have a long way to go in becoming anti-racist, anti-classist parents and teaching their children to be anti-racist and anti-classist. On the whole, however, I am proud of this school community and feel lucky that my family can be a part of this environment.Other Review2y ago - O Henry Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son was bullied so badly that we left the school. The counselor and assistant principal were supportive, but nothing was ever done. Never heard one word from the principal, even though things got pretty serious. It broke my heart to see him in such emotional pain and the damage it has done. I feel for every child who is bullied because it is something they have to deal with long after the actually bullying has stopped.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 222 West Ave #1711.

"Downtown Austin is a mix of small-town feel with big-town attractions. We love our local establishments. It's easy to walk around, with green spaces scattered all over. And local bands play every week. We have new buildings constantly going up and festivals happening all year round. The downtown scene is changing dramatically, bringing in new concepts next to old standbys."

"Downtown is where everything happens. It's a nice balance of culture, music, and business—as well as government. The University of Texas is also just north of downtown, so that adds another dimension to this area."
- Matt C.

"Downtown is busy and getting busier as more and more companies move here. Downtown does have good access to get north, south, east, and west. Traffic is pretty normal for a big city with 1 million + people. I moved here from California, and Austin is still better than that (SF area, LA area, San Diego, etc.)."
- John B.
- Resident

"Easy if you are going north on I-35 in the morning. Coming into downtown at 5 pm, forget about it, not happening."
- Heather M.
- Resident

"Traffic can be bad, but I work only about 25 blocks from my home so I have it easy."
- Jordan H.
- Resident

"Very easy. As long as there isn't construction, everything is smooth."
- Krishna K.
- Resident

"There's plenty for kids to do, including lots of action at the new downtown library and the skate park."
- Ben E.

"It's more of an adult location than for children. "
