5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDefiance Middle School is an okay school. I would recommend it for the area. The school itself isn't that good, but it's the best in the area. A lot of bullying goes on, most of the teachers are supportive. Fights don't happen too often, but they come close every year. Defiance welcomes the students well, but vaping in the bathrooms is a big issue. There are two lunch periods for the middle school, A and B. Lunch A lasts thirty-minutes and has all of eighth grade and partial of seventh. Lunch B is also thirty minutes and has the other half of the seventh graders, and all the sixth. There are three minutes in-between each period, which makes it really difficult to get from class to class. Other than that, it's an okay school. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a DHS alumni and I have 2 children enrolled here. As a former student I was often overlooked by staff and students alike. In Defiance if your parents aren't rich or work at GM you are a nobody and not worth knowing! If you are looking for a diverse and accepted learning environment for your kids I would suggest moving out of the area b/c all of new Ohio is like this. My 2 students enrolled at DHS are both on IEP's and I agree with some of their ways but not all of them. Children on an IEP are discouraged from using extra help. They don't care if they succeed or fail. The school places a high emphasis on modern technology with i-pads for students and smart boards in classrooms. These things take more precedence in school budget than books. My daughter does not have a history book. On the plus side, when my daughter was being harassed by another student the principle took my concerns seriously and it stopped. I love the guidance counselors here. They are interested in their students and their academics. My only complaint is that they get a different guidance counselor every year which I feel takes away from personal attention.Parent Review10y ago - Defiance Elementary School

"Small town that has expanded outward. Little Semitruck Parking. As a driver I have had to get creative. Two locally owned taxi companies. If you have a car or don’t mind walking you can get around."

"We have no public transportation. There are a lot of bicyclists and pedestrians though. Most of us own our own personal vehicles and work in neighboring towns. "

"Defiance is a mid-size city that is continually growing but maintains its historic, family-friendly atmosphere. There is something to do for every age range. The public and private schools are exceptional and offer sports, music and other extra-curriculars. Defiance College is well established and attended. There are many arts programs offered as well as a wonderful library that overlooks the confluence of the Maumee and Auglaize rivers, Defiance is a good place to raise a family, attend school, volunteer or just sit back and enjoy all it has to offer."
