5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter graduated from BHS with Honors in 2018 and went on to be on the Deans List student at SUNY New Paltz where she majored in Education and minored in History. She also won a NY State Chancellors Award for creating a history app of the Hudson Valley. Now she is attending Teacher’s College at Columbia University in NYC. I say all of this because every child CAN reach their potential in the Beacon Schools; we have caring teachers and parents. Especially the latter. My daughter received an excellent education, and we supported that with outside activities and travel that the school did not have the budget for. No matter, she and her close friends are all success stories. Don’t rush to put your kids in private school, give public school a chance; support the admin & teachers; you won’t regret it.Parent Review8mo ago - Rombout Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe raised 4 children in Beacon and all went to Rombout. It is a decent school, but it is a middle school; the hormones are raging and the students are beginning to break out from their parent-controlled childhoods. I noticed that most reviews are close to 10 years old. Beacon has come a long way in ten years, and Rombout is improving along with Beacon. As another reviewer noted, Beacon is multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, and multi-economic status; a lot like the U.S. If your children do well in school, they will do well at Rombout. Shielding them from the various aspects of society is not going to help them, and perhaps, they can benefit those less fortunate than themselves through their interaction (now I'm sounding like a Democrat, and I'm far from that :) ). I bet it would be hard to find a community where the middle school is rated higher than either the elementary or high schools.Parent Review1y ago - South Avenue School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWonderful experience here. My daughter has thrived in this school, the teachers from other grades even seem to know her, they go out of their way to challenge her and foster a love of learning, and have kept me updated regularly on both social and academic issues.Parent Review11mo ago - Check out schools near 1067 Wolcott Ave.

"It’s very walkable to get all my basic needs. Although some things are overpriced in the shops on Main Street, I like that I don’t have to go far for a pharmacy, bank, groceries, print shop, ups store or a hardware store. "

"I drive about 35 minutes to work. There is often a lot of traffic on Rt 9d as there is only one lane and it backs up when the train let's out and also when there is construction on the Newburgh Beacon bridge which is apparently quite often. Beacon is growing and they need to expand on the infrastructure of roads to accommodate the mass influx of people or it will be all too city like before we know it. "

"Beacon has become over crowded .. rents are too high even NYC now has cheaper rents .. you can’t go anywhere any longer that’s quiet . Schools are a mess , and main st is packed with tourists with ill manners on the weekends . New buildings have gone up all over the place for the past 10 years so there is never a quiet day without construction going on somewhere . Crowded parks and the mountain is now an attraction that is over run with city people with their stupid phones and garbage. "

"Diversity, outgoing friendliness, and safety. It’s a good place overall. Main Street has plenty of influence from all socioeconomic and demographic backgrounds. There is some gentrification happening but only in small patches. "
