Being a current student, this school is exactly great. The teachers help with your grades and the students are well behaved and smart.

Ya know despite the fact that the school is overall not a great place, I've been having a great experience! You'll be good as long as you don't heavily involve yourself with a bunch of various persons and their business. Be careful not to mess with people, but if that does end up happening just tell a staff member about it, it doesn't seem like people try to harass the people their friends are harassing (at least for me). A bunch of my teachers are really supportive, I like all of them except for my biology teacher, and a lot of the teachers seem to be going from decent to pretty good at what they are teaching, and if you can look in the right place, you can make great relationships with fellow students! Even the ones who are rough around the edges are pretty good people! Overall, I'm having fun here! I could've chosen to stay at the high rated school I was at, but I decided to transfer here and I'm not regretting it!

CHS is a great school. I have a totally different background and was worried about bullies but I have been received with love and kindness. Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. My teachers are already discussing college courses with me.Future Aeronautical Engineer,Oluwadamilare.

I just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. My son's dreams have to come first. Thank you Malcolm Shabazz for caring so much about my child and his future!

what can we do to make our schools better? It's up to us to make a difference with our schools and city. Stop complaining about what's so bad about it and make a change.

The education system in the building is very strong and positive. The staff and students welcome you with open arms and show u the right way to be in the building. West side is full of positive attitudes and positive people.

The staff at South Street School are very involved with our kids. They have such great educators here. We didnt even know about this school until it was time for my daughter to go to kindergarten because the schools nearby were overcrowded. However, Im happy that they were. Lastly, Security staff is excellent! They go above and beyond what is necessary to help our kids. They are very committed. Knowing that our kids are in good hands when dropping them off to school makes our day at work less stressful. This school has an open door policy and whenever you need to speak to an administrator there is no wait time, they provide care and support immediately. I love this school! South Street School is the best kept secret in the district!
