8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to Gull Lake HS and graduated in 1999 with a 3.3 GPA. I wasn't a straight-A student, and I wasn't a great athlete, although I participated in sports while attending. I wasn't a "cool kid." I ended up going to Michigan State University, and felt as prepared as I could have been for college. I know some of the teachers and staff that work in the district now, and each one is a caring individual. I can't think of a single exception. I moved in to the GL school district so my kids could attend Gull Lake. If I had written a review of GLHS while I was going there (or right after I had graduated), I probably would have given it a bad review! But looking back, it was a highly structured environment with caring teachers, excellent college prep courses, and great facilities. Here's the thing about high school: its hard. Being a teenager is hard! Dealing with bullies is hard! I hate cliques! Guess what, though? That stuff doesn't just go away when you grow up. Learning to deal with people - bullies, jerks, smart people, idiots - it's all part of growing up. Gull Lake does as good of a job as any school, and IMHO, it's easily the best school district in Southwest Michigan. Highly recommend.Parent Review7y ago - Kellogg Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTeachers label troubled kids as "bad kids" and that sticks with the child and they think they are only a bad kid. Teachers very rarely respond back to emails. I've had issues all year long with the school and my child. After so many attempts of the school "trying" to help my child succeed they give up.Parent Review6y ago - Thomas M. Ryan Intermediate School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageUnless your child fits in the 80% of the bell curve you will not have a good experience in this school. Our child has emotional and social issues and the school has no clue how to handle it. Our child is not our biological child, she came to live with us 2 years ago with PTSD and complex trauma. Our child transferred to the GLCS system when she came to live with us and GLCS "missed" a 33 page IEP that was in place in her previous school, then they fought us tooth and nail to put another one in place that was clearly necessary. When we were finally able to discuss an IEP with the school leadership the principal came into the meeting and opened with "If you're not happy with what we put together, I've spoken with our superintendent and he's happy to sign a document to have her transferred to another school." I was stunned since we had never asked for open enrollment, we simply asked them to do their JOBS! That clearly sends the message that they are not willing to do anything extra to help a kid be successful in school. Our child has come home complaining about how mean her 3rd grade teacher is everyday of the school year. From all of our communications with the teacher she is very rigid and inflexible which is the opposite of what's required with children with PTSD and trauma. Our child has regressed in nearly all areas of social ability as a result. They refuse to move her to a classroom that we know would be a better learning environment for our child. She recently came home reporting a racist club on the playground that doesn't allow black kids to play in the group. This school clearly has washed their hands of our child. She's too difficult and in our opinion, they'd rather just not deal with the kids that require a different approach than the standard cookie cutter education.Parent Review6y ago - Check out schools near 133 Gull Pointe Dr.
