Great school, except the fact that there is only one bathroom open at a time EVER and There are 10 boys in there at a Time.

Cleveland is excellent. My child is in CORE (Humanities Magnet), but he participates in sports year-round and music, and those all-school programs are excellent as well. First of all, the education he's getting in CORE is world-class, and is decidedly more impressive than many of his friends at $50K private schools. He's learning things at CORE I never even knew about in high school... or college at a top 20 university. Something like 60% of the teachers here are former students themselves, which shows the devotion and learning is deep. CORE kids are going to great colleges, too.The AP classes at Cleveland are challenging, though some of the science is just taught to the computer test, and there is very little joy of learning involved -- but that seems to a product of the AP system, certainly not Cleveland.Sports are great, they spend almost too much time (do they need to take 6th period to play the sport and miss academics? Unfortunately this is an LAUSD issue. Do they need to play a sport all year around? This is just a by-product of good weather, I guess). Music at Cleveland is top-notch, particularly the band program, which is winning city- and state-wide honors, they are excellent. Theater is getting good and CORE sponsors a fabulous rock band festival every year.The NEW BUILDINGS at Cleveland make it look like a community college, which these LAUSD kids deserve. Don't hesitate to send your kids here!

My son who is autistic loves going to school, we had an awful experience at his previous school and were so happy when he got assigned to Dearborn. The Teachers and TAs in his class are all so amazing and patient with the children. He is always so excited to go to school and tell me about his day at the end of the day. I can't speak enough about what a huge relief this has been for us as his parents, we have seen him thrive in this environment and are forever grateful.

My child attended from 2019 to 2021 when I moved her. Online teaching was an absolute disaster and no one at the school would work with my child who was having major mental health issues. The assignments were multiple and inappropriate for the time they were expected to do them. This school says they are "accelerated" but they just give a lot of work. That isn't for gifted...that's busy work.My child was threatened 2 times with sexual assault and the school did absolutely NOTHING for my child except have the other kids apologize to my child. Ridiculous. My child had to go to therapy for this and the school did nothing to protect her.Teachers didn't work with parents or students to improve grades. if a child fails, that's it. No help. No caring. No compassion. My child hated going to school. her depression was thick. The school did not care at all.I moved her to a new MS the 2nd semester of her 8th grade year and she SOARED! She loved going to school and ended her MS career with straight As. She was getting Ds at Holmes without any help or intervention from teachers. They do not care. Now my child is in HS and doing amazing. Thank god for getting out of HOLMES. it's awful.

I really like this school because it is diverse and I felt very welcome at this school
