3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son attended Manual for 2 years, and that was enough. The school is not terrible, but there is an attitude among the teachers that since this is a ghetto school they should be able to do whatever they want. There is no leadership from the administration and teachers run their classes however they see fit. Mr. Channel, who is mentioned elsewhere here, has a rule that if a student is absent even one day, with or without an excuse, they fail the course. My son was sick one day (with a doctors note!) and failed the class, even though he had all A's. Channel also designates certain pretty girls to be his "helper teachers", and these students get special privileges. Other teachers do much the same, favoring some students, enforcing bizarre rules, etc. We went as far as the school board to protest this, but the attitude seems to be "well , those teachers work in a tough school so we let them alone". At least we didn't have to worry about "teaching to the test". Nobody in this school seems worried about how their students do, long term or short term. I come from a family of educators and I have never experienced a school like this.Parent Review10y ago - Check out schools near 1073 Exposition Blvd #302.

"I lived in this neighborhood for over a year. The weekends are loud you can hear music being played from houses down the street. Not walkable at all. Huge dogs everywhere and doesn’t feel the safest. Pretty dirty and unmaintained. Closest grocery store is a food for less which is dirty and not where I would want to buy my groceries."

"There are lots of people who have dogs. Most are friendly. The neighborhood is changing so some do pick up their dog’s pop. "

"this area is a melting pot of many different long- standing Los Angeles lineages of all different types. there is a strong certain respect for people who have lived here all their lives and stand against letting the neighborhood be bought out i (gentrified) in any way. I admire it :) Also, there are some beautiful, beautiful front yard gardens ❤️"

"of you go to school here or need to be here cool but for raising children not the location. I have 2 boys and this is not the place I would be having them go out side or run around. also there is almost never any parking here. I could buy a new car with all that I owe in parking tickets"

"I've lived here for 3 years now and some of the neighbors are friendly and we all look out for one another. There's a laundry mat right across the street from where I live so it's really convenient when laundry needs to be done a plus about that is I don't have to cross a busy intersection it's right on the corner of a residential neighborhood. "Nothing. this is a fine neighborhood to live in as long as you parent your kids properly. There is not too much activity at night. you hear sirens or a helicopter every once in a while but not lately. "

"Like most of L. A. , we are over - crowded by families who exceed maximum occupancy; averaging about 30 per household. One bedroom apts hold 3 generations. Everyone gets a loud birthday party and all parties are outside. Good luck finding a parking space on the same block. "

- Trulia User

"There are a lot of lose dogs around the neighborhood and many aren’t trained so it can pose a threat to your dog. People don’t pick up after their dogs so there is poop on the sidewalks. Also it can be hard to walk your dog because there is a lot of trash on the street and sidewalks so your dog might chew things up. "

"Fairs and parks are plentiful, small block parks everywhere. We have 3 in a 8 block radius There is a homeless problem; that’s all over the country Theft is very low people respect each other’s property in that way. Not the prettiest are the newest but is fairly safe I catch the bus to work and it is actually the best bus line in the city of Los Angeles comes every five minutes it goes from Gardena to Hollywood every five minutes "

"There are some sketchy parts with homeless or drug users to be cautious of but overall, they are friendly people. Wouldn’t recommend allowing kids to walk alone. "

"Be diligent parents regardless of your neighborhood. Children look to their parents for guidance and protection. If economic means makes an undesirable neighborhood more suitable, bring awareness to your children about the importance of being humble, yet not allowing that same economical situation to be a hindrance to achievement. "

"I drive and commute is really horrible in a busy weekend. sometimes it can be challenging on just to find a single parking spot "
- Vanessa A.

"Always a long commute. Wether I drive or use public transportation. The streets have also been redone to accommodate bikers & scooters with their own lanes but most riders don’t follow the signs or lights. You have to be a super defensive driver."
- Anastasia P. J.

"There aren’t any that I am aware of. No sense of community here. It has a long way to go. The old houses are beautiful. Parking is a nightmare. Proximity to metro is great. "

"I don't know of any. I rarely go out in my neighborhood. There's to many people loitering outside of liquor stores, which essentially cause gang violence or shootings."
- Kimberly G.

"Currently, there are no community events that make my neighborhood special. My neighbors would rather not be involved."
