9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience at Mission San Jose Elementary (MSJE) was amazing! I had a great overall learning experience and ultimately, had a really fun time there. Most of the teachers are really nice and kind, and they help you whenever you need it. The school counselor also hosts regular activities where students can meet each other and participate in fun and engaging events. In the five years that i've been a student here, I've never had a problem with any person /teacher and everything here is so nice. There are also lots of school activities, such as a Halloween Parade, Science Camp, going to Ohlone College to see a play, and Movie Nights. The field trips are also really fun and exciting, and we always learn a lot from these experiences.Student Review8mo ago - Mission San Jose High School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would not recommend this school at all. My parents bought a house in the Mission district after hearing that the school was highly ranked and many students went to top colleges around the country. However, the school itself plays essentially no part in making this happen. I have been attending Mission for the past two years, and I can confidently say that it is one of the most toxic, competitive, and stressful environments I have ever encountered. While the students are bright, most teachers don't do their job at all. This is not to say that all of them are bad; I have had three brilliant teachers in my two years at the school, all of whom inspired me to pursue the subject they taught. However, the majority of teachers at this school couldn't care less about their students. Take my math teacher, for example. Every day since the first day of school, she has lectured for 5 minutes and left slides on the board for the students to reference while they do their work in class, with the occassional quiz or test in between. Despite having been at the school for 30 years, she hasn't taught her classes anything, and her students are forced to learn everything on their own. My chemistry teacher this year frequently displayed favoritism towards certain students. She randomly assigned topics, did not follow a curriculum, and found ways to dock points from our grades wherever she could. She does not answer student questions and frequently berates us because, according to her, the students at this school are lazy and unmotivated. However, Mission students are some of the hardest working students in the county, which is why many of them are accepted to T50s every year. And by many of my fellow classmates, I am considered lucky to have had these teachers this year. Simply because theirs were so much worse. The teachers are fiercely protected by the teacher's union. Even if they don't teach at all or grade unfairly, there is nothing we can do about it. The administration is incompetent as well. They do not care about the wellbeing of the students and don't take complaints or requests into account. In short, I would not recommend anyone who is considering moving to this area to attend Mission San Jose High. It will place immense pressure on the student and cause mental/physical health issues. The students will essentially have to learn everything on their own with little to no guidance from most teachers.Student Review11mo ago - Check out schools near 422 Anza St.
