"I've lived here for 2 years now and I honestly love it. It's very affordable, and it's nice to be a quick drive to downtown and the airport. There are gun shots and loud noises, and I wish they would repave rugby, but I've always felt safe. "

"There are a lot of dogs here, but honestly a lot of them are "chained in the yard" dogs. People do walk their dogs around here, but it's a mixed bag."

"Husband and I bought our home in 1989 and so far my earlier words have rung true on a couple of occasions but the new folks have learned what we " settlers know " there is a sense of community in our block and whereas we might not know each other by name well that dies not stop us from stopping by to chat ."

"farmers market and neighborhood watch are 2 of the greatest things in this area. Lovelady center is awesome for church service and many churches in the area"

"We have now lived in this property 26 years and whereas people have moved in and out over the years typically there has to be a death or a divorce for property on either side of the street for a home to become available which in it's self relates to a stable community and thereby little turn over in neighbors ( or property it's self ) in the overall community "

"Been here since Dec 2006, really not that bad of a place at all. The neighborhood does look a bit rough in places and the renovation of the area has been a bit uneven, but it has great potential. The recession slowed the pace of renewal but if you work in Birmingham I don't think you could find a neighborhood with better value and potential. When I started looking for a home in 2006 we checked out Southside, Avondale, Forest Park, and Crestwood. All of those areas were overpriced then and still are now. If you are looking to lay hands on a home in a neighborhood that has the potential to be the next up and coming area, Eastlake is the neighborhood for you. As a side note I know that a lot of people get worried about personal safety in Birmingham city limits, as I said before we have lived here since Dec. 2006, during that time I have worked out in the Gulf of Mexico 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. That means my wife and three children have been here by themselves for 2 weeks at a time and have had no problems, often walking to a nearby store, park, or church. In the almost 5 years we have been here were broken into once and they got a TV while we were gone. The alarm system and quick response from local law enforcement prevented further loss. We have taken trips where the house was vacant for a month or longer and never had problems. Overall our experience here has been positive."
