West End Target Area activities started in July 2012.     "Most of the houses in this neighborhood date to the early 20th century and this area feature some of the finest examples of the city’s early architecture. Streets have large tree canopies and inviting sidewalks, many of which lead to the Roanoke River Greenway and the 16-acre Vic Thomas Park. Other neighborhood amenities include Mountain View Center (also known as the Fishburn Mansion), West End Community Farmers Market, Fishburn Rose Garden, the West End Center for Youth, and the new Mountain View Neighborhood Garden, which is scheduled to be completed in 2013 by the Roanoke Community Garden Association.
