This school is the best! We moved from Colorado in October and have had nothing but positive contact with the school. Mrs. Edwards is wonderful. The school is run much better than where we came from.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how well this school performs. Having moved from a newer area to this school zone, which is in an older area of town, I was afraid my kids wouldn't receive a great experience/education. (It would be nice to have a big, shiny newer school like Frazier or Hajek). BUT, Mound has definitely surpassed what I want from a school. Each of my children excel/excelled here.

This school has been an absolutely wonderful place for both of our children. The Special Education Program here is top notch. The teachers really show care and admiration for the students and act as advocates for their learning. We still have one child going to school here and I honestly miss having both of them at Hajek. We have had experiences very different at another school in a different district, and moving to the Mistletoe Hill neighborhood was life changing (in a great way) for our children. Can't say enough about the great things about Hajek!

This school feels more like an institution than an elementary school. While my children lucked out with a few amazing teachers, my overall experience with this school was deeply disappointing.Admin lacks communication, organization, transparency, and providing adequate support to staff. The school lost many strong teachers, and the amount of turnover is concerning. From a parent’s perspective, I had no idea what was going on with my kids at school. The lack of communication created a disconnect between the school and its families and made it difficult to feel involved or confident in the school’s leadership.Admin would complain about a lack of volunteers, but there were very few opportunities for parents to volunteer outside of joining the PTO Board. Unfortunately, the PTO also seemed to have little involvement and visibility. We were always asked to contribute financially, but I definitely couldn’t see how those donations were benefiting the students/teachers or improving their school experiences.School spirit was non-existent. There were few special events, opportunities, or clubs for students, and the school often felt bare and uninspiring. Even during the holidays, there was very little effort to create a festive or welcoming atmosphere, unless you include the partially lit Christmas tree in the cafeteria with no decorations, which felt representative of the overall lack of school spirit and engagement.One of my biggest concerns was the frequent disruption of my children’s learning environments due to serious and ongoing behavioral issues. It was concerning to hear about classmates throwing objects, hurting other students, vandalizing classrooms, etc. I understand that children with behavioral challenges need appropriate support. However, the classroom teachers were left to manage situations beyond what they could reasonably handle. Teachers requested additional help from admin but received little meaningful support.I truly hope this review serves as a wake-up call to admin. The students, families, and dedicated teachers at this school deserve stronger leadership, better communication, greater transparency, more support, and a school environment that feels welcoming, engaging, and focused on helping students thrive. Do better than the bare minimum.

I have been a substitute teacher since last October, and this is the worst school I have been to. The environment is not good for students or teachers. The classrooms are chaotic, and there is no support from the administration. I do not recommend this school.

They make data-driven decisions without losing sight of the human side of teaching. Their lessons are well-structured, engaging, and inclusive. It's clear that they go above and beyond—both in and out of the classroom—to ensure their students thrive.Parents appreciate the open communication and transparency, and students benefit from a structured yet nurturing environment. The presence of such high-performing teachers elevates the entire campus, setting a standard of excellence that motivates the whole community.In short, Deer Creek Elementary—bolstered by its exceptional TIA teachers—is a place where kids don’t just attend school; they flourish.
