"There is a high school next door and the neighborhood is always very lively. Not a ton of specific events that are thrown, but great city "

"Most people have their dogs on a leash but a few dogs are leash less. A lot of older folks have lived here a long time including myself. "

"Great neighborhood and place to grow up in for the Kiddos! Love my neighbors. Love that we’re just a stone throw away from Travis heights and downtown but at a fraction of the price. "

"This is an older neighborhood in Austin so you won't have all the bells and whistles like a community pool, playground, etc but the best part of that is you also won't have an HOA breathing down your neck. You are free to paint your house whatever color you want, let your grass grow and have chickens if you so choose. People mostly mind their own business but as neighbors we are tight and lend a helping hand if needed. One woman has given us a key to her backyard so we can use her pool for years. The only community event I know of is an annual garage sale. I think I remember some kind of neighborhood party last year but I don't go to those sorts of things. We are an old south Austin neighborhood that has managed to keep the old Austin beliefs around. The schools aren't great but what can you do?"

"Many many dogs in the area but most are indoor dogs. Owners walk their fur babies at all times day and night in the neighborhood and sometimes people even let their dogs off the leash. Garrison Park is across the street with lots of room for dogs "

"Rush hour traffic can be frustrating, a few intersections get congested, but in general traffic is relatively light, especially for Austin"

"Sunset Valley wilderness area with trails, to West of neighborhood. Bowling lanes at Westgate and William Cannon. Easy driving to grocery stores: HEB, Sprouts, Randalls, Whole Foods, Costco. Barnes & Noble bookstore in Sunset Valleys shopping Center. "

"This neighborhood feels like what Austin used to be. It’s laid back, quiet, and funky. But it isn’t trying to be. It just... is."

"Garrison Pool, in Garrison Park, is great. It's well maintained and has swimming lessons and other activities. There are great restaurants close to Garrison Park, too, so it's easy for older children to make a day there and feel safe."

"I live across from Garrison Park, where my children took swim lessons and where we have walked the paths for many years. This is old South Austin, not fancy yet not low-class. We are proud of our area, and most folks have no interest in moving out."

"We are only 8 miles from the University of Texas and downtown area. Yes, it is crowded, but doable. It is going to get worse as development along Manchaca Road continues, which concerns me."

"Garrison Park is a safe and wonderful park. It is crowded at times, but if you use the park as a family and raise your kids exposed to all it has to offer the kids will benefit."

"the area is very up and coming. sure, it doesn't have a wine bar that is a walkable distance but it's so close to westgate village and even south park meadows which both have local favorites like hyde park grille, madam mam's, amy's ice cream. "

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageEden park was a great experience for us. The school has a very community feel. Parents are involved and the staff and administrators are responsive to concerns or needs. If your child needs afterschool care, however, I do not recommend the extended care that they offer. The staff is impersonal and rarely interacts with the kids. The word my son used to describe them is ‘mean’. There are lots of options for afterschool care choose literally any of them other than this one.Parent Review2y ago48 Reviews - Cunningham Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCunningham has amazing teachers and small class sizes. Both the teachers are other students at school functions always seem so positive and accepting of everyone. Both my kids had amazing experiences and Cunningham for the last 4 years. The PEAS garden/farm is an awesome opportunity for learning and life-experience. The PTA is engaged and does a lot for school activities.Parent Review10mo ago18 Reviews - Odom Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageDedication to excellence and developing every aspect of the whole child not just academics is clear at Odom. The office staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. You get a sense of belonging like a family; genuine care and concern for all students. The teachers have a way to include every student and diversify their teaching to accommodate all the different learning styles that make up their classes. The score of “4” is not reflective of all the great and positive things this school is doing and accomplishing. Your kid will feel welcome, comfortable and at ease to learn. Staff ensure the child’s needs are met beyond academics; honing in on their emotional and mental health as well.Parent Review6y ago3 Reviews
